It is a good thing that bikes do not spin.

Blowfish's Racepack was reading 278 mph when he spun out.  12 revolutions over 1.5 miles.

That's gotta be a world record. Deserves a prize for largest cojones.
Actually at that point you are just along for the ride, and little you do will influence the outcome in a positive way. You are hoping that nothing is damaged beyound repair and that the soiling of laundry is internally contained. However, at that speed you really need to think about when and if to let the chute go!

Spun off the line a little ways out, the bikes rear and followed her front end and they seemed to meet together after a brief dance...the bike is repairable and the good news she is healable..couple broken ribs and a collarbone break I think also...

Get well Nancy!

Well -- Wednesday morning of SpeedWeek and here I am at the start line for the #1 course.  I'll try offering return run coverage from here so I can at least be sure of who's running on this course.

Doug Grieve is first in line in the 9991 Salt Cat II XXO/BGL.  He's just getting dressed - but for sure will be first down this course.  I can't see anyone else in the line yet -- they're still around the bend of the staging lines.

Weather report:  64F @ 7:20 ayem, wind 6-10 from the east (strange), partly cloudy, 20% chance of precip.  Cars are just pulling in to the staging lanes for Record Returns.  Salt Cat lakester is right in front of me and SSS (no Nancy, altho she may appear later today) is parked just next to me.

I still have some photos from Impound yesterday.  I'll get to 'em asap.

I saw Nancy and SSS at the Nugget for dinner last night.

She was doing very well.

Slim has to be tough to keep up with her.

Hang in there my friends.

Well, The Hudson Boys are ready to run over on #2, I hear, in the little car J/GALT.  First mile  9931  143.587 backs it up -- go to impound.

9991 Salt Cat II now running the engine on #1 course.  221 on a 204 record yesterday.  He's off.

First mile   (car not running well)  picked up now 216 middle mile  last mile good enough -- yesterday did it in the middle mile

B1369 on #2  220.434 first mile

B3508 Ralph Hudson next on #1    178 on a 168 record yesterday.  He's away.   First mile  178.819  middle mile  178.396   last mile  177.656  go to impound

919 on #1   177 in the 1/4, shut off.  Reports a pothole at the 2 1/2, knocked a turbo off, car stopped on course.

B1110  71.709 first mile

#2  1190 D/S  156 third mile  164 middle mile   No more speeds, but I hear he backed it up.  Corngratulations.

Wait a minnit -- 919 was labelled as J/GS.  If that's the case -- why'd it have a turbo to lose?  What did I hear wrong?   Ah - later word -- not a turbo on the car, but a suspension failure.  Car needs loading on the trailer to clear the course, so #1 is stopped for a while.

6797 J/GT on #3  116.099  go to impound.  Nice run.

4004 V4/FL next on short course -- qualified at 161 yesterday.  Not running well -- 106 at the 2 mile.  110.692 in the third mile.  No good.  Bummer.

909 #1 next  Dennis Varni  334 on a 330 record yesterday.  Engine running -- 259" Chevy.

First mile  247 Middle mile  300.030   last mile  334.496   take it to inspection.

B271 on #3  on a 119 record  146 second mile, 146 1/4  145.028 third mile  to impound

#2 1937 next  He's running (okay, driving) down the course.  First mile  spun at the 2 1/2

B35  Gunther Maier on 79 mph record on #3

Turbine engine car 912 spooling up in front of me on #1.  262 on a 232 record yesterday.

It is just wonderful sitting at home and checking in with our mild mannered reporters from time-to-time. I'd rather be there but this is a great fix. NICE JOB!!!

Sorry to read about Nancy's wobble off the line but it sounds like she is making a fine recovery.

Not many more return runs to go here at #1

#1  627 next.  H/BFMR  1/4 161 mph,  first mile  162,   middle mile  (Glen says it sounds really rich)  161.251 mile 4     last mile  shut off to 120

2406 next on #2  F/BGC  204.801  mile 3

#1  630  AA/CALT  on a 246 record.   226.552 first mile   middle mile  238.680   last mile    242.761

1531 next on #2    mile 166.192

B859  Cathy Butler on #1  Cathy's away from the line.  first mile  174.535   middle mile 177.729  last mile  177.812

#2  Buckwheat Racing  261 yesterday   mile 3 236.714   mile 4 249.591   238.828 last mile

Car 1015, John Lawson, next on #1    on 183  record.   XXF/STR   179.662 mile 3   184.994 middle mile,  last mile  134 & shut off in last mile  go to inspection.

#3 B1627    2 mile 66.064

#1 course -- both 125 and 77 are at the line.  George and Tegan going to race down the long course :-D

Okay, it's Tegan first.  Needs just a bit to get into the 300 MPH Chapter - ran 300  yesterday.   Engine running and she's away.  The record is Lee Gustafson's.   253 in the 1/4  265.931  third mile   middle mile  289.672   last mile  301.580  probably good enough for that blue hat.  304 exit speed.

I'm going to hang it up for a while and go tend to Nancy.  She's hoping to get out here for lunch today -- I'll be happy to squire her around.  C U later.
