Those last coupla years I used the desire to start using my camera/monopod as a mace/quarterstaff as an indicator that it was time to split, get a nice cold cream soda or Gatorade and head for home.  It seemed to be the best way to avoid handcuff rash on my wrists.   rolleyes  I just don't like handcuffs.

Yes. YES. YES!!!

Most awesome rant ever. You da man.

YES!!!!
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.

Some shots from Course 1 (Long) starting line:

AA/GALT MacDonald & Pitts Firebird (632 cid "mountain motor"),

Costella, Yacoucci & Waters E/GS running a 260" Chevy smallblock...not exactly a "Kodak moment"

The Dauernheim, Biglow & Davis AA/GL blasts past the Costella, Yacoucci & Waters trailer as it's being readied to take the liner back to the pits.

Finally, Andre Moreau's ultra-kool B/GALT Stude heads down course as the Rat moves over to the short courses.

That is really cool. I met that guy at the bend in the road a few years ago. That car at the time was under construction and he was driving another 215 powered roadster with a hand made body on it. And yes he has one real hand and one metal claw type hand.

Hi Mike

Really neat stuff, do you have any more shots of the twin engine red & white roadster? or what ever it is.

The broad array of cars on the salt is just amazing, what a great place for the mind to go crazy !!

Like they say ' Run what ya Broung '

DND, Don

Here are 4 photos of the roadster which the owner calls a "1936 Buick Wildcat."  Two of the photos are from the Cache Valley Cruise-In (Logan, Ut), July 2010 and the other 2 are from the same event in 2011, which, incidentally, is the last time I'll shoot that event.  In addition to the abysmal lighting with variegated light under the trees, that show  has to be the world's epicenter for "rude."  I dunno what/why it is, but not only are there 12 trillion grimy-mitted brats running around unsupervised and unleashed, but their parents are no better.

Those last coupla years I used the desire to start using my camera/monopod as a mace/quarterstaff as an indicator that it was time to split, get a nice cold cream soda or Gatorade and head for home.  It seemed to be the best way to avoid handcuff rash on my wrists.     I just don't like handcuffs.

Oh.  Lest I forget.  I've never met the roadster's owner/builder, but I've been told that he only has one arm.  His creation is outstanding.  It has a pair of 215 aluminum Buicks for power.  I guess you could call it a Buick V16.

Nancy and Jon

Time difference, a special day for me and a days work away from the computer has meant that I did not catch up with the reports on Nancy's condition until now. It has been a long day waiting to find out. Nasty injuries to recover from, but glad it was not worse Nancy. Best wishes Nancy for a swift recovery, made less painful by the pills and the support of Mr SSS, from Jane and myself.

Good to see Jack C running with Speed Record Club stickers on the front end. No one knows how many mph they can add, but every little helps. Other racers may wish to follow this example. :-D

And 3 bikes and a...whazziz...I dunno...Mazda?  Nissan?  Probe?  Check that.  It's a Nissan 240SX with an imported R20 (I think) motor.

Off to Impound.

....hard to believe Poteet and Main run 427 mph......one of the fastest recorded speeds in
history......and nary a response .........wow they are one class act......making it look easy
enough that it goes almost unnoticed...

Man!  I didn't even hear about it!  Was that this morning?  If so, I'll go see George and see if he has a smile on his face.  As I understand it, they were running the smaller of the two motos, the 299" D class motor after blowing one of the 247 C class motors.  (Or thereabouts...I'm not workin for 'em this year, so I don't have as close a relationship with 'em as I have in past years...my choice; I'm supposedly on sabbatical for a number of reasons.)

In any case, 427 is 1 mph faster than they've ever run and if they did it with the small motor, that's outstanding.

Hey Ray. Mark here. You probably remember me as Santy Claus form the Speeddemon Team. I guess you noticed i was MIA from the crew. As you stated, It was my choice. I will explain sometime when i see you or in an email. Glad you are there and as usual, your coverage is great. Give Pork Pie and Jon and Nancy my best. Glad she is Ok. Keep up the good work and i will be following daily. Mark.

Here's a nice offering to us at landracing.com.  James and Friend Racing  brought over nine or ten motorcycle helmets that had been donated to them courtesy of BLD -- "Bikers Legal Defence", in England.  The guilty? parties are BeerBelly Kelly and Buzz Lightbeer (or at least that's how they sign on the Forum here).  They are running bike 1980 -- and A/F 1350 scooter.  I haven't gone over to their pit yet for a visit, but I'll make it sooner or later.

In the meantime - we've got a bunch of helmets (non-Snell rated) but with the Euro ratings.  They're available for inspection here at the SSS pit, and if you want one -- a nice donation will be appreciated.  Not all are 100% brand-new appearance, but still -- a good helmet for your kind donation to the site is a heck of a good price.  Those that don't get taken from here at this event will be available online or at WoS or the Shootout or even WF.  Come and get 'em -- and thank the fellows from Britain for their donation.
