689 on #2 next  on a 261 record.  Qualifying on course #3 now -- returns done there.

689 235 1/4   mile 3 242   257 mile 4  263.348 last mile

Nothing going on right now.

Remember, we're back to qualifying runs on #3 - I won't report those speeds.  I will go looking for a printout of yesterday's qualifiers - once return runs are done.  That'll be a little while yet, though.  No idea of what's left at the line to return run.

432 on #1  1/4  208  214.026  first mile  225.357 middle mile   last mile 229.220

#1  719, #2 588 -- coming up next.

6706 on #1  193  1/4  197 mile 3  204.191 middle mile  206.295 mph.

Density altitude was 6064' a little while ago.  It's in the low 70s here with winds (at the pits) about 5-10 tailwind.

#1 course  car 719   192 1/4, first mile 193,  middle mile 199.248  last mile 200.158

Speaking of Nancy, she's back in the motel room sleeping (I think) and obviously a bit better already -- got out of bed and walked a bit and moved easier.  No bowling for her tonight, though, but she's doing better.

Poteet & Main #715 Speed Demon is next on the line.  Running on a 394 record.  I don't think it's a return runm -- let's see if I hear a correction.

Geroge just blew past  318 1/4,  mile 341   390.194 middle mile  last mile 419.055   427 exit

And that's with the D engine, did I hear?

And next up is a time only car, so I guess that return runs are done for the day.  No official proclamation - just putting two and two together.

I'm shutting this down for now.  Listen on the audio - and I'll be back later.  Thanks for hanging around with me this morning.  I'll eventually get some results and post 'em.

Ray, we must have been shooting together today looking at your pics.  Valerie changed traction control mode on her bike and it held back her run to 188 today.

We very well could have been.  It's almost impossible to be aware of everyone around ya, especially when tryin to get yer shot without gettin run over of blockin someone else's line of fire.

I cannot tell you guys how bad-A$$ this car is.  Jeff Brock (owner/driver) set a record today, and then re-entered in another class to go for another.  Don't know how he did in that run yet.  Note his car lettering below.  He painted on his lettering and had to tape of the new class letter and used white shoe polish to make the G and F or and E to an F.  Forgot which way.

You're absolutely right.  the "Bonneville Bombshell is one awesome piece of work.  Here's a lousy shot of it during record returns from an hour ago or thereabouts.

And a couple more from yesterday, then one of Joel Young's Model T-powered liner from this morning.

SSS, it's great to have ya back.  Again, I'm very glad that Nancy's injuries weren't worse.

Here are 4 shots of an Offy-powered Watson Indy roadster that, if the lettering on it is correct, was driven by Roger Ward...it might be the 1959 Indy winner.  I'll have to ask 'em.  They were having transmission troubles when I shot the photos.  It was kinda amusing to watch the "gawkers" (who gathered around when they heard it fire up ) flinch every time the guy in the cockpit blipped the throttle.  It sounded beautiful.  Btw, the "Halibrand Mags" are painted on the Moon discs.  They fooled me at first glance.  I had to take a second look before I realized they weren't the real thing.  Ossum car!

Great Offy picture. I'm one of the lucky ones who gets to listen to Bob Andersons 270 Offy in his street driven 29 A Roadster pickup.............Nothing..I mean nothing sounds like an Offy...............

Hi there... I'm new here and new to LSR...

Can someone let me know what the Record for SC-PBG ended up being? Heard from a friend
who was out there that a Turbo Harley Sidecar ran 136 but he didn't know if it was a set record
or just trials on the bike. Would love to learn more about this scooter and the speed he ran.

BTW... Printing the mag wheel on the disc was one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Good luck

Am I missing something (as usual  :| )?

2.A.1 "XO class consists of inline overhead valve (OHV), inline flathead and.....In the spirit of the class, XO engines shall typically be those run at Southern California dry lakes in the 1940s and early 1950s."

"XXO is an XO engine, as described above, with a specialty head as described below....Overhead cam specialty heads are not allowed in the XF, XO, XXF, & XXO engine classes."

Cool car, though.

....hard to believe Poteet and Main run 427 mph......one of the fastest recorded speeds in
history......and nary a response .........wow they are one class act......making it look easy
enough that it goes almost unnoticed...

Hi Mike.  I think the VOT class is a bit of an exception.  Since the head and block of the Offy motor are one piece, I don't think it can really be considered as a "Specialty Head."  That's pretty much a guess on my part, so maybe an expert will chime in and give us the definitive answer.

Man!  I didn't even hear about it!  Was that this morning?  If so, I'll go see George and see if he has a smile on his face.  As I understand it, they were running the smaller of the two motos, the 299" D class motor after blowing one of the 247 C class motors.  (Or thereabouts...I'm not workin for 'em this year, so I don't have as close a relationship with 'em as I have in past years...my choice; I'm supposedly on sabbatical for a number of reasons.)

In any case, 427 is 1 mph faster than they've ever run and if they did it with the small motor, that's outstanding.

Ah, "5.B.5 Vintage Oval Track (VOT)...In this class ONLY, non-production overhead cam engines of pre-1948 design (Miller, Offy, HAL, etc) run in XXO class..."

Cool!  Thanks for the nudge, Ray!
