Jon just called from mile marker 91, heading this way.  Nancy is going straight to the hotel.  Jon will come out here.  They both sounded great on the phone.  Salt Talks may take place later this week.  To be decided.

Carry on . . .
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

How about some photos?

Valerie Thompson on her 1000 cc BMW

The first Chevy Fleetline C/GC I've seen..and pushed off by a 49 Ford!

A Packard Straight-Eight engined rod dedicated to all veterans...I was honored to sign my name on it.

And a lovely lady named...I think...Lindsey...with one of the bikes in Impound.

Nope...and it isn't here to run.  This was a display-only deal, as well as a dry (figure of speech...see my next post) run for getting all the parts and pieces together for the first test run which will be done at the Mojave Mile at the end of September.

By the way I see that 22 "guests" are viewing this awesome coverage of speed week. All of this is made possible by donations. Please help Slim with whatever you can afford so we can all enjoy this play by play awesomeness for years to come! It is really easy and takes less time than it took me to type this.

Thanks, Bobby.  We're kind of in-between wind storms at the moment.  30 minutes ago we were scrambling for cover and takin down all the "fly-away" stuff.

Here are a few more photos, then I'm gonna take my camera, make a leisurely exit, then head for the hills to edit the things this evening.  I'll have stuff to post in the morning.

First, the "Salt Flyer" AA/FL

Next, it never fails to amaze me that there are so many ways to make me look at something and say,"WTF?"

Last 2 shots: Poteet & Main's Speed Demon in the pits.  The final photo is the reason.  One of the 2 "C" class motors broke.  So the "D" motor has gone in for a "shakedown" cruise.

I'll post this here and in the "internet broadcast" thread, too.  I went to Impound to get a list of who's there and how fast the vehicle went -- only to find that there's a notebook FULL of qualifiers - like a couple of dozens of 'em, and that's just for cars.  The bikes were pretty well represented, too.

It was a quarter 'til 8 (PM) when I got there, and in case you don't know it -- there's a strict limit of 8 PM for clearing the salt.  I wouldn't have been half started with copying down the names, numbers, and speeds - before my skinny ol' butt was kicked out of the area.  So I'll go to the SCTA office, here in the motel, in the morning and get the list that they'll sooner or later have prepared, and then I'll post it.  I also plan to leave a sleeping Nancy here in the room and head to the salt so I can do my best to give you some play-by-play of the record return runs.  That's likely going to be the fastest way to get you the information.  There are going to be two courses running (I think) for return runs, so I should be able to keep up.  And remember -- even though it's said that return runs start at 7AM, that's when the vehicles leave impound to parade down to the start line.  The first run might not happen 'til 7.30, maybe earlier or maybe even later.  I'll do my best to give you some of the story, though.  C U inna ayem.

Sounds good, Jon.  You have a pretty full schedule taking care of your bride and providing info for us too.  Make sure Nancy is comfortable and taking her meds before heading to the salt tomorrow.  Glad to see her injuries will heal in time.  Thanks for keeping us up to date with the latest info from SW.  Get a good nites sleep... you need it with what you have been through.

Understand Danny Burrow in the Blowfish blew (pun intended) the transmission on the first run at about 150 and spun out.  They are going to make another attempt in the morning.
