Legal seat?
« on: July 28, 2012, 04:36:32 PM »
Is this seat legal for our #3838 A/BGT Vette? It not that we are too cheap to change it, it's that is really mounted well and us going to be a lot of work to change it.

How thick is the padding, 1" is max allowed, is it fire retardent? Have you run it by the SCTA tech. committee?

We are good on the 1" max padding.
I have not run it past the tech committee yet.

I hope it passes, you should place a helmet in there flush against the headrest, if the head support sides of the seat go as far forward as the leading edge of the helmets chin bar then it meets "that part" of the rule,, the rest would be padding, material and mounting rigidity...

I'm guessing that this disqualifies the seat.

By the definition of the rule this would not pass...looks like you are an Inch short on side support length..

You need to modify the seat head side supports (you may not have to replace the seat)  just add to the side restraints so that from the pic you took the chin bar would be equal too or behind the leading edge of the seats helmet side supports.

Good luck,

Charles

You may send a pic to the tech committee for your class,,, it is sure close (but not exact as the rules read) hmm I hope it is the same lenght or longer on the right side (looks like the right side is shorter) that may be an angle or optical illusion.

You should always have at least 3 rule books. One for the shop, one in you day driver and one in the bath room AKA the racers library.

Or, I took tubing, and mounted in to the top of the rollcage, coming down on each side, but made it removable for street driving, or other kinds of competition.  It took about 4 hr and $50, mostly the SFI stickered padding.

We built an extension on our full containment seat, using square tubing. It proved
to be the best solution for us on the 56 Corvette.
