Fire retardent protection for helmet fresh air hose
« on: July 21, 2012, 03:10:54 PM »
Not sure if rule 3.E applies to a hose that feeds outside air to my helmet as it is not a system. But if it does need some ideas on fireproofing the hose or replacing with a fireproof hose. Any tape I could wrap it in or ?.

Jegs and Summit both have fire barrier hose wrap in if it isn't large enough for your hose, they come with a velcro closure, so you could put two together.         Bob

We got a fire sleeve for the 369 roadster from  DJ Safety. Looks spiffy, all shiny and stuff.

I use the Thermotec stuff for my FAST system.. works great but sure makes the hose VERY VERY STIFF...

make sure you are not trying to make the hose do a U turn ,, even a 90 degree turn is tough when the sleeve is over the hose.

We have our whole fresh air system covered in stuff like the thermotec insulation. Several companies sell it. We used the sleeve to cover the hose from the fan to the helmet and wrapped the rest with the blankets like you wrap a starter with. Then we used the fire resistant 3" brake ducting from the window portal to the filter box.
