1953 Studebaker
« on: June 27, 2012, 07:30:54 PM »
1953 Studebaker Starlight coupe, 2 door, unfinished project, $5500.00.

Clear Nevada title in my name, matches VIN on car.

Car is located in Boulder City, NV, 89005
.
Previous owner replaced the stock drivetrain with an Oldsmobile all aluminum 215 V8, Saginaw 4 speed with hydraulic clutch, 3.0 geared 8" Ford rearend (posi). He blew the car apart, had it body worked and painted a Lambo metallic orange (hugger orange with gold metallic), it then sat in his covered carport unassembled till I purchased it last summer. PO had started color sanding the trunk and hood.

I believe I have all the bits and pieces for the car ie bumpers, grill, lights, trim, windows, seats (front and back), instrument panel, stock gauges. The engine install looks very nice.

I bought the car from previous owner, trailered it home, put it in the garage and it has sat there ever since. I never started it, PO said it runs, shifts etc. but I never verified.

See http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=710486 for pictures, can't figure out how to get them on here.

That post car is not a Starlight.
Although that's true, didn't you (and the seller) intend to say "Starliner"? I believe that "Starlight" was the new-for-1947 style.

Starlight, starbright, first star I see tonight  :-)

Hey Stan, seems we have been over this designation on another forum.

According to the guys over at the Studebaker Drivers Club this IS a Starlight.

Starlights have the post, Starliners are hardtops, no posts.

Whatever it is, its for sale.

Guess I could call it a 2 door post car.

If anyone likes it shoot me a pm or email, the price does have some negotiation room.

If it sells from here, a donation will be made to the forum.

That shows how screwed up my mammaries are -- I thought Starliners were Fords.

  FWIW-from Wiki...

In 1953 Studebaker radically redesigned all of its models and discontinued the 1947–1952 panoramic "5-passenger" ("Starlight") coupe. Studebaker sedans rode on an 116 in (2,900 mm) wheelbase, although emphasis was placed on the sports car-like "Loewy" 2-door coupes that rode on Studebaker's longer 120 in (3,000 mm) wheelbase. Offered in both Champion and Commander model ranges, the coupes were available as pillared and hardtop body styles. Hardtop coupes were designated Starliners while the Starlight designation was applied to the five window pillared coupes. The styling on both these later cars copied[citation needed] on the Hillman Minx of the late 50's and 60's, which was also designed by Raymond Loewy.

The '55 model name of the previous Starlight reverted back to "5-passenger coupe", "Starliner" became "5-passenger hardtop."

Wiki isn't a source, it's merely a compendium. For what little it's worth, Wiki also says that the Studebaker Starlight model was built from '47 - '52.

Yes Starlights and Starliners were made from 47-52 but then read what Jacksoni posted:

Enough semantics!! Someone buy this thing! Price is negotiable!

I'm the guy that sold the Stude to the fellow in Las Vegas. I live in Hesperia Ca. I still have the window frames that go in the back windows. Salty Dick
I run a Fiero at Bonneville and have done so for 7 years. This year the Pontiac SD 4 engine lost oil pressure and I won't be going.  It's a long story.

I figured that was you Dick.

Next time I'm through your area I'll give you a shout and hopefully pick those up or if you ever head to the Vegas area give me a hollar.

Seems no one wants to take her off my hands so I'll pick away at putting it together, maybe when the weather cools down.

As a side note, for the regulars here, Salty Dick is quite the acclaimed automotive wordsmith and an all around good guy.
