George Poteet and Ron Main are looking to earn TEAMVesco's Turbinator "World Wheel Driven" title this year with Speed Demon. The Poteet & Main entry has, over the years, turned in some startling numbers with diminutive CID and cylinders which got me wondering who has gone the fastest with the least amount of CID on the salt. I'm curious about the the normally aspirated and blown "champeen" for:
car
truck
motorcycle
Anyone care to weigh in? It would make a nice discussion for my upcoming book. . . .

An interesting related question is how would you measure that?
mph/CID or since power needed increases at the cube of the speed mph^3/cid
Do you correct for vehicle frontal area?
Might yield some interesting answers by investigating different ways of looking at that topic.
Might be a very interesting thought experiment for those AFA engineering cadets to mull over.

The 50cc Budenbaum motorcycle streamliner should be the fastest at 145mph for S-AF class.
50cc = 3 CID
145 / 3 CID = 48.3 mph per CID
That is the fastest one that I can think of.

Costella-Yacoucci seem to do quite well. Over 300 w/ a one liter motor? Isn't that hero territory?
Of course, that roadster that went over 300 is also impressive, but has a motor that is a "little bigger".

Small displacement motors will always be faster per CI than big motors for the same vehicle type. Ultimately big motors go faster than small motors.

I think a better question is who was able to go 'X' speed with the least amount of HP.
IE
Who had the least HP to go 200/300/400. (*not that this data would be available)
Beck proved 'rotate the earth' HP can push a brick over 300....but I can only imagine how fast that 5000hp engine would go in a liner with traction!
BTW:
I think the Ack went closest to 400 (*I think 400ish on exit) with the least HP of all vehicle that went this fast.

Rick that is an amazing speed for that small of an engine. I'm curious as to what it was installed in? Were you riding on a R/C car, or what? I've been looking for a way to get racing that my meager budget will allow, and I have a bunch of tweaked R/C engines from my Pylon Racing days that are just sitting in a box. The kid down the street has a Dragster that will hit 100 mph with I think is just a .60 cc on 80% Nitro. If I could hook my Grandkids Radio Flyer to that thing I think I might have a racer that would fit my budget  Smitty  |

I'd have photos of Rick on that bike -- if it hadn't been so small that even with the long lens I couldn't get enough in the frame to look like a rider on a bike. It was something to hear, though - - Whiieeeeiieee-eeiieeeng as it went by. Plenty of time to listen, too,  |

We have a guy here in town that rides one wearing a full set of leathers, and a backpack. You can hear him from 3 blocks away! hilarious.. Could a person use one of these Pocket Bike engines in a Lakester? Smitty |
