Gauges on a production bike
« on: May 11, 2012, 03:40:36 PM »
I realize that a production bike has to keep its stock gauges.  Can other gauges be added, boost, air-fuel, etc. if they do not add in streamlining, or give it any performance advantage?  There is a panel in the fairing where they could be safely added.

Look at the bottom line on page 114 of the 2012 rulebook
"the only modifications that may or shall be made are as follows"
then it goes on to list on page 115 and 116 what you can do

Gauges aren't on the list, so I would say no.

Turbo from the factory?  what bike is it
Put the gauges out of sight... a boost gauge won't do you any good, the the AFR will if it records... at least forensically  :|

The bike is a 1983 Honda CX650 turbo.  It will run in 750 P-PPS.  I can't afford a data system and the bike runs slow enough that I can catch a quick glance at the gauges and it would be nice to be able to monitor air-fuel and boost.  Since there are so many variables from where I am testing the bike (temperature, gas, altitude) I am just curious about how conditions will vary on the salt.  It would be nice if I could find gauges with a tattle -tale feature like some tachs have.

Terry Kizer sells mechanical boost gauges with peak memory. You could hide it on the bike.

Another option is to run a removable dash on test runs, then once the tune is set, pull the dash and be P legal.
