Saturday at the Ohio Mile, the winds blew

What does everyone think, did the 20-25 mph winds on Saturday cost top end speed, if so how much do you think it cost you. On my first run my truck skated all over the lane, but the wind socks had not changed on the next run but it didn't seem to move the truck around and my speed was almost two mph faster,

Dunno.  Probably depends alot on direction and the driver's attachments.

My Miata got us to 135 at Bonneville in a 29mph gusting crosswind.  When the throttle was lifted it blew us across 90 feet of salt!

and it was a tail to a crossing tail (but I am no weather man)

One of the guys at the starting line said the winds were gusting to 25 mph, I tried to open my truck door against the wind and almost could not push it. The wind had died down by my second run.

According to NOAA, highest sustain winds on Saturday was 23 mph with highest gust being 33 mph.  Sunday calmed down to 14 and 21 respectively.

Thanks for the real facts, like Charles said he nor I are weather men. My Dad lives on top of a small mountain in a community called Buncombe in n.w. Georgia and the wind always blows. He has a windmill and a fifteen mph windsock and the wind at Wimington around 9:00 to around 10:00 am was certainly more than the fifteen mph that Charles felt. Six or so hours when I made my next run which was around two mph faster the wind may have been at fifteen mph but I never had the advantage of the tail wind that Charles had on his run.

First run early in the morning was with a big cross wind and gust.  Saw the big wind sock go straight across as I left the line.  Had to roll off at 3/4 as there was no room left on the right side and the wind was causing front end lift.  The second run was late in the day and went fine.  182.997 mph.

The direction of the wind sock seemed to remain constant for the weekend. It was a tail wind blowing on the left rear of the car.
My car ran arrow straight with no apparent wind effect. I don't think that the wind had much positive or negative effect, with the exception of motorcycles.

Our camaro is fairly light by most standards, but Amy said that she couldn't feel the wind and the car ran arrow straight.

I ran first between 9:00 to 9:30 am and that was when the wind was gusting so, I caught a gust maybe a hundred feet off the line and it pushed me to the right side cones. The wind died down some right before the rain started so some of you that ran after that may not have experienced as strong sustained or gusting wind.
I just wanted to know if anyone that ran early thought they lost any speed due to the wind,

I ran JUST before the rain (I think my time slip said 10:34) and didn't notice ant significant crosswind.  Of course, I'm driving a tugboat, and only at 107.

I ran shortly after Greg on Saturday and had a healthy dose of that 23mph constant and maybe some gusts.  I felt I had to back off around 110 or so as I was heading for a cone and she was still slipping.  I wouldn't say I was scared but it was definitely exciting.  I think I will be asking for them to let a few vehicles skip me next time that situation occurs.

I think right before the first rain came the wind might have dropped to fifteen mph that some of the guys are talking about but earlier like on my first run you had to constantly drive my truck. It wasn't difficult to do once you realized what was going on, but my truck has a large area on the side to catch the wind. With the track so much smoother than Maxton and the hp I gained I believe if there had been no wind I could have gone 137+or-,
but I accomplished what I had hoped to do and everyone ran safe as far as I know and it is a great facility for us.

It's like Keith says in rookie orientation, " the real riding/driving happens after the timing lights". All of the racers did a great job all weekend. We had two anxious moments at the end of the track, but again - great driving saved the day. Only one tiny puddle of oil at the end of short shutdown. What a great way to start our new chapter!
