How To Save A $$ At the Ohio Mile
« on: May 03, 2012, 05:44:03 PM »
As last weekend was a little pricey I went looking for a way to save a little.  It turns out that there are much cheaper motels in Washington Court House and surrounding villages (Jamestown, maybe?).  Anyhow, there are several motels at the junction of I71 and US35.  I booked the Baymont Inn (part of the Wyndam chain) for $154 for Friday and Saturday nights including taxes, etc.  I paid almost $100/night at the HIE.  I have NO complaint with the HIE - the room was clean, service was excellent, amenities top-notch - just that it was a little steep for me.

It's a short hop down 71 to the Wilmington exit and I don't think it'll be too much of a commute.  Anyhow, I'm going to try it for June and see how it goes.

we stayed at the cowan lake state campground, 7.2 miles away. 28 bucks a nite for a site with electric, you can tent camp or trailer camp. nice showerhouse and clean bathrooms just a short walk away. they also have 2 bedroom cabins with a porch, living room, full kitchen and bath for under 100 a nite, we will be geting one in september.

place was clean, quiet, and close i do recomend this option

there is also a private campground across the lake.

we figured towing the 28foot travel trailer from jersey would have added almost 400 bucks to our trip so we did the tent thing. but then again i like tent camping and have the rite gear.

RUNT
who would have guessed it would take so long to go so fast for such a short time?

We also stayed at the Wilmington Inn and were surprised that they didn't jack their rates
up to take advantage of the event.

How were the rooms at the Wilmington?

Clean but older... no bugs or noticable problems in the two rooms I had..

Decent place and the price is right... not a new HEI or Hampton, but I was Ok enough to rebook them for June. (as long as they are clean and the A/C works,, I am good)

See Ya

the wilmington inn was nice. the second closest hotel to the track. about a half a mile further than that hie. cold breakfast and coffee was doable.
I'll be back.

Hampton Inn was excellent. It was a bit pricey by Laurinburg standards.  $378.00 for 3 nights = 3 adults.

I'll stop at the Wilmington Inn in June and discuss rates.  I don't know why I was seeing higher rates online.  For $55 I'll book July during the June meet.

The HEI was okay but nothing great, they did have fresh coffee all night for those that don't sleep and a hot breakfast starting at 5:30 each morning. I paid $89.00 per night plus those sneaky hotel taxes.

Geezer Racing really appreciates the Patel family and the Staff at the Wilmington Inn. Atul brought out his family to support the ECTA on Saturday, "frostbite" and all......let's support them right back.

Looking forward to great weather and a great event in June.

I thought the Willmington Inn was a bargin and liked the fact that there were two resturants just off the parking lot. Coffee at breakfast needed help however.
