Is a quick shifter legal inP-?P
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:51:14 PM »
We'll be at the BUB this year racing a 2008 Hayabusa in the 1350 PP class. The bike is used for drag racing and track days so it has a QS on it.
Is it legal to use in the PP class? I realize it didn't come from the factory with one but I see no performance advantage with it in LSR.
Besides I have since lost the stock shift rod and am too cheap to buy a new one and too lazy to want to change it back.
Thank you

Hopefully Drew or another tech inspector will speak up. But in my opinion from reading the rules it would not be allowed. The QS has components that are visible and therefore not stock looking.
See you there.

MJ, even on the salt the air or electric shifters offer an advantage.  Try shifting to 6th without disturbing that perfect tuck you just established for the last mile.  My 1000 was still accelerating from the 4 thru the 5, the air shift allowed you to stay in position.  Not allowed in an SCTA event for production and if I read AMA correctly will not be allowed at the Bub.

If the Quick Shifter does not offer a performance advantage why is it called Quick Shifter?

Got my answer, for my bike in the PP class no quick shifter.
I guess I need to remove the Speedy Shine and 200 mph tape also  :-D.
Time to dig up some parts and get to work.
Thanks for the replies,
MJ

You can use ECU-Editor to set up shift kill in stock ECU and use horn button to trigger it,all with nothing showing. Just hit button and foot shift, no need to lift from throttle or clutch it . Have my Gen 1 Busa set up like this.

Well, sure can't complain about 2008--6 records over 200 and 5 hats from Bonneville,Bubs, and El Mirage for the team!
