Classic Engine classes

Are the classes limited to 500, 650, 750, 1000 cc? Can anything under 500 cc run as a Classic (Production, Gasoline, or Fuel) engine?

So I read the Classic Rules one time.......after 3 I should have it down.  Question; will the Classic class have a cut off year similar to the Vintage class?.........or will it be exclusive to air-cooled motors?

Must be have "a production date prior to 1978." (for this year)

"Date will progress each year. Classic is defined as a motorcycle 35 years or older."

Nothing about air/water cooled that I can see.

That's why I'm asking.  Doesn't leave much incentive to build a bike prior to the '81 or '82 introductions of the water-cooled motors. I guess if I start now on Magna I could have it ready to go in 2017.

You could run a 750cc Suzuki water buffalo triple.  They are old enough and can make decent power.

I thought about the water buffalo......but its power is also somewhat limited and very much surpassed by the early 80's bikes.  I think this is a very cool idea and will bring out a lot of competition within the class. Vintage......to Classic......to Modern.......why does the Classic have a moving time zone?

I think the classic bike class is an interesting concept, but I wonder how many people will spend the money to build a contender, then pay $600 bucks to set a record that can't last.

with over 1800 MC classes why not build to one of them NO more classes needed.

I think the same could be said about the production classes. I realize there are way more classes than participants, but look how many entrants there were in the 1000 p/p last year. Not everyone comes home with a record.

I thought the saying was, records are not won, they are merely out on loan. Seems like part of racing is trying to be faster than the other guy.

Tom, Glen, Cranberry.........that's why I am asking.  I think its a great Idea to have a Classic period of bike landspeed records.......but why not declare the exact range of say 1956 to a specific year.........or air-cooled only.......or less than 100 hp when new production.......???

I agree, although time will tell.  I think the biggest problem with more classes is the length of the waiting line.  I'd consider running a second bike if there was enough time.  With more classes, there are potentially more entrants, and with more entrants, more money.  Hopefully, with more money, there will be a 3rd or even 4th lane.  Last year, waiting times were sometimes as long as four hours for each run.

Untill AMA changes their staging and pre-stage system I don't see wait times for the short course changing. The best I've ever done there is 2 runs a day. Waiting in line the rest of the day. The worst was sitting in line from 6:30am while watching others make 3 4 or 5 runs. I made it back to my pit after my first run at 4:30pm.
