Fuel at Ohio Mile
« on: April 18, 2012, 10:31:04 PM »
Will the Rocket Fuel man have Methanol at the Ohio Mile or do I need to bring what I'll be using?
When running FUEL class,  containers need not be sealed ,do they?

  Need Info,

It's my understanding that only gas classes must have a sealed containers.

Hooley,

For Gas class you must buy the event GAS or have a sealed can inspected and take sealed,,

For Fuel,,, you are OK to bring your own any way you like,,

See you next weekend.

Thank you 57Ranchwagon and Charles,
I thought that was how it works. If He doesn't sell Methanol I better go get a barrel and bring most of.  We think we have a handle on this methanol now.   Can't stand to brake the motor again .

          See you next week.

Hooley, I don't know if there'll be alky at the track, either -- but keep in mind that if you stop at a DOT scale or cross a bridge where you might get inspected -- that you'll have some fancy explaining to do (shades of racers carrying fuel across the Hoover dam) about that 55-gallong drum of methanol.  Plan your route accordingly or have MSDS and fire extinguishers and that kind of stuff ready in case the nice DOT lady wants to see inside the trailer.

I'm not sure that you'll be running across places that might give you a hassle -- but just in case. . . :-D

It's even more fun when you cross the Canadian border on the way to Loring.

Here's one that you might not know - about crossing into Canada:  The Canadians take a dim view on foreigner drivers (that'd be us going to or through Canada) that have received any type of drunk driving ticket in the past ten (10) years.  It's common practice for the border guards to ask for identification when you're trying to cross, and they'll run the driver license number through the computer to see about your record.  I imagine they'd take a dim view on many types of tickets, for that matter.  They have the right to, if they find a record they don't like, refuse you entry into their country.  At that point you've got no alternative but to turn around and either take a US-only route - or try another border crossing point and maybe show a passport instead of driver license*.  If you think you might be affected by any of this type of law I'd suggest a query to the Provincial police before leaving home.

*  Maybe the rules have changed now and you MUST have both driver license and passport or something like that.  We always carry passports when we travel - feeling that not all that many terrorists carry a US passport.

Passports are the way to go whichever country you're coming from or going to. They're now mandatory.

Boy, I sure hadn't thought about whats involved hauling fuel.  I have an open trailer with a box on front. The fuel will be in 5 gal fuel cans. There are fire putter outters inside the trailer too.  Won't have to stop at any DOT places unless they make us.   I hope there won't be any of those bridges or such either.  Jon, thanks for mentioning that.

The closest dealer to Wilmington for methanol is Duncan Oil Co. in Beavercreek, Ohio, 24 miles approx. 30 min. from the airpark. Duncan will be open on week days until 7:00 p.m. and on Sat. until noon. They have alky at the pump for 2.65/gal. or a 55 gal. barrell for 2.55/gal. I have used thier fuel from the pump with no problems.
