Not planning on Bonneville this year, still learning a lot about the program. What class are you planning on running? It's a great looking bike, the aluminium work is art, all my stuff is function first. Best of luck on the salt, Foil Hat Racing will be out there next year. We're running the Ohio Mile this weekend.

Running pushrods is good for you....you learn patience from all the stuff that breaks, humility from all the ideas that dont work, manual dexterity from tearing down the engine every 4 or 5 runs, and lose extra weight in the bargain (all from your wallet, unfortunately). . Hoping my engine will last a couple runs, again this year, and there is enough left to rebuild again! Hope to see you all on the salt....be safe and have a good trip. JimL

Not this year, of course, but I have an idea, and there is room in my frame. I still carry fond memories of Don Sligers twin Enfield in 1969. I visited him in his pit, as we were right next to each other, and watched him run about 190 with that open bike. His bike was so neat, compact, and clean.....for a young guy, it left a powerful impression.

While waiting for the tank, fender & body to get done at AtoZ Metal finishing. Jacob got the turbo finished up & back on the bike , He also put the new valve covers on. When we first got the bike is was FLAT BLACK all over ,It looked like hell . It nice to see some color on it now.

The turbo and exhaust look great, what finish did you put on them? Are you going to wrap any of it?

Thanks for the thumbs up on how the turbo looks. Not sure what Jacob used as a finish on it. He alway has some trick I woudn't have thought of using. Everytime we get together he has some new idea . A few times I have to stop & think about it before the light in my head finally clicks on...& I have one of those OH YEAH moments... Yes he is going to wrap the turbo.
We know that looks don't make the bike go fast. Jacob has been building Speedway , Drag & offroad bike for decades.... He works over time on trying to squeeze all he can out of a bike. He also prides himself in make anything he works on look BITCHEN. His use of color has gone way above what I thought we were going to do on this bike. This is going to be one bike that is easy to see on the salt.

It looks great and I have no doubt that it will be fast.

Sliger was the first to break 200 MPH w/o a fairing. Buddy Martinez was in line right next to him.
Sliger was the first and Buddy, the same day, went slightly faster than Don but he wasn't first to do it.
Don had Royal Enfields and Buddy rode Triumph power.
That was a long time ago but Buddy's disappointment is still vivid to me.
There is a foto of Sliger in the Bonneville pictures on this site. Higbee was talking to him by the tow rig.

Sliger and Enz were Gear Grinders and I have a bunch of info and a magazine article on them. The bike is in a museum and still has the club decal on it. Sliger was the first to break 200 MPH w/o a fairing. Buddy Martinez was in line right next to him.

Heads up on the seat pod. BUB/AMA regulations require the following: "Any aerodynamic aid at the rear of the motorcycle (including the riders seat/tail section), shall not extend past the most rearward edge of the rear tire, should not be higher than 5 inches above the lowest section of the top of the seat cushion or seat base if no cushion is used" I believe from my interpretation of this rule that you can add a seat cushion to make sure you don't violate the 5 inch rule. My first trip to the salt was 1970 and I talked to Sliger, too! These are my shots in the 1970 gallery: http://www.landracing.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=213&pid=8970#top_display_mediaI wondered what happened to his bike and saw it again in 2001 in the lobby of the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, England in a little different trim!
