The first Ohio Mile, I'm ready
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:20:07 AM »
I have read about a lot of you doing teardowns and rebuilds during the winter, new carbs, turbos, dyno time and even wind tunnell time and I hope all of you  are ready because the time is almost here. Some of you have set some lofty goals and some participating in the Hotrod Top Speed Challenge and I wish safety and success for everyone. On a smaller scale my truck went into a LSX performance and tuneup shop three weeks ago for 1:8to1 full roller tip rockers, behive valve springs and for dependability heavy wall pushrods, cnc ported throttle body and a dyno hp tuneup for an additional 62 hp. Because of my Parkinson's desease and Rheumatoid Arthritis and the related pain on such a long trip this might be my last event, might be, I have some personal goals I have set for myself also as part of my continueing recovery from a heart attack and three strokes that I was supposed to have never recovered from. So for myself and all competitors, crews, volunteers I hope the rain holds off and the wind is good for all of us.
Looking forward to seeing all of my LSR friends in three weeks.

Here is the typical response of a LSR fiend.

Hang in there Garrell. Many people support you.

I hope you have results that deeply satisfy you.

Best of luck to everyone.  Our ZX-6rr is back together and looking strong after Texas.  The ZX-10R will get its initial runs of the year in Ohio.  It isn't complete, but a couple of parts and a few days away from it.  The rider on the other hand suffered a riding injury (neck/upper back) and if it was baseball would be on the 15 day DL (disabled list).  We'll just call it DTD (day to day).  I expect to be there and just fine.  See you all then.

2008 Kawasaki ZX-10R (4 200 MPH Clubs)
2008 Kawasaki EX-250R (Multiple ECTA and LTA records)
131 Land Speed Records set since 2008
125 Land Speed Racing records (including 3 Worlds Fastest Speeds) set since 2008.

You are supposed to save your riding for the track ... What bike did you hurt?

Pardon me for going a bit off track -- but Max just sent a note saying he probably won't be at the first Wilmington event after all.  His son will be getting videotaped by the local tv station as the boy's room gets one heck of a makeover - and Max is to be there to provide support and therefore - can't go to Ohio.

Dang - he's got the audio equipment ready to go, too.  next time for sure!

Max, sorry you can't make it but sounds like you have a big event coming up at home, consider this extra healing time. Did you lay a bike over at Texas or on the street?

Let me clear it up.  I didn't go down, but took a solid hit on a bike with no front suspension.  That transfered to the shoulder and upper back/neck area.  Needing some recovery time.  We'll be there, maybe a little stiff, but who knows, maybe a bettertuck from it.  :-o

As far as Texas I didn't have any issues at all with the racing surface.  I only raced the 600 there and was in the 180's.  I was well under control and slowed before the questionable area in shutdown.

Different Max, missed Texas.
I'm seriously thinking about dusting off my non-official landracing.com jacket & running away from the event here to the event there.  Especially iffn' I can wiggle a spot near the starting line for the audio & computer gear.  What do they broadcast the speed after a run on, CB or FM?  What do people listening online want for background music, blues, bluegrass, nifty fifties, classical, honky tonk or Western Sahara neo-Mali desert pop?
Not sure, but I'd love to anger the little woman with a major faux pax that would get me exiled to a half year meandering route on the LSR circuit for the season, eating out of dumpsters behind supermarkets, working cross-country freeway off ramps with my cup & sign, stopping at various BofA cash machines to see if she closed my account, etc.
I just suggested I be  webcast out of town AND "the little general" didn't give me the usual deadly stink eye.
We'll see.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
