We found another one....Lakes or Drag?
« on: March 23, 2012, 04:48:28 PM »
You may have seen this, but in case there are those that don't venture beyond, and some locals that might recognize it here, I'm posting a few pics here for a couple of reasons

1) some history?
2) was it a lakes or drag car?

Here she is as we found her

And here she is after we brought her home:

After we cleaned her up a little:

I would think lakes roadster with the belly pan and a cut out in the rear for probably quick change access. Did it have a frame?

You're dad a lot of cool stuff!

We couldn't locate one, or I should say, haven't located one...yet.

Here is a pic of the car with the firewall and the pan on, there is room for a channel frame and exhaust running under it.

The Dash has a sticker on it

Participant - 1959 NHRA Nationals Detroit

After we washed it we noticed the dash has some residue on it from another sticker.

The car itself was Orange.

The hood was originally yellow, and it's aluminum. The 518 car built by the Dahm brothers has many similarities, the nose is different, pan is a little different.

A shot in the dark, for sure.  A lot of tin gets swapped around over the years, and that sure looks like a '60's-70's paint job, but if it were the Dahm Brothers car, that would be a stunning find.

What else do you know about it?  According to some posts on the H.A.M.B., the Dahm Brothers car was set up with a Chevy frame.  Can you tell what kind of frame this thing was set up with?

No idea on the frame. There is 4" of rectangular space above the cutouts for the 3" exhaust. The Paint is probably late 50's unless that '59 participant plaque was added later.

It's the only clue we have now other than the "Sacramento Calif." paint on the back of the car.

I realize these cars can go through many incarnations, but one thing is for sure, someone put some big money (for the time period) into it at some point.

It was loved.

Oh, and the original firewall was Red.

My pop built race cars and hot rods. He was an incredible machinist, mechanic, and developer/designer. He and Bruce did work on some projects together, and he built at least one that I can remember (Circle 11 car) for Bruce. Our families are not strangers.

These cars (4 we have found so far) were his personal projects he wanted to build for himself. It was this quest that kept him going as long as it did, so now my sister and I will finish them...so he can be complete.

We will...

One thing I find to be eerily similar to the Dahm Bros. car is the rear fender wells, they are both "inside out"?
