Modified open / partial streamlined
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:26:10 PM »
Hi please forgive this newby question.  If you have a sport bike say a CBR or a Ninja can you successfully get through tech and run the open class if you remove all the fairing. I know that it varies from bike to bike and what kind of job you do, but generally is it legal to attempt this

Larry is correct ... the short answer is yes ... this is within the rules assuming it meets safety and the provisions of open bike rules.   Read the rules carefully for the event you are going to run.

Be sure that none of the remaining duct work or brackets under the fairing proper could be interpreted as an aerodynamic advantage - if so, it must be removed.

The rules regarding the removal of OEM fairings and all the stuff that is left under those fairings were revised for the 2012 rule book. Be sure to get a copy and look at sections 7.F.11 for the Modified Production class. The last paragraph in section 7.F.11 is also new for 2012, but did not get the Bold lettering like the other revisions in that section.
