P/PP-1350-4
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:51:54 AM »
ok, got the rule book yesturday and read it.....many times. todd answered my question on class. i do have others

this is a 2002 X1 Buell, as it came from the factory. nothing added or removed.

as i understand it, i can remove pasenger pegs, turn signals, and mirors, i must add a updated kill switch and tether, steering dampner, and make sure the tires are rated for the speed i intend to run.

i believe i must install a metal chain / belt guard since the oem one is integrated into the abs rear fender

all modifications to the engine must be out of site and the bike must look factory oem.  ok that sounds perfect for what i want to do, but i want to make sure!

want to run ceramic bearings in the wheels this season, possibly the engine next season?

want to run roller rockers, better valves and springs, raise compression, change pushrods and lifters as well as the cams
also want to gut the oem muffler and install a custom baffle, it says in the book must not alter exhuast outlet. can i modify the muffler internally?

if i am on the rite track, i am a happy man. would hate to show up and have a useless bike.

RUNT

who would have guessed it would take so long to go so fast for such a short time?

Yes.

As long as you can gut the muffler without any external signs, including looking down into the exhaust, you are good to go.

Only one thing that I saw is a "no-no":  the tires must be rated for the speed of the record in your class, not just the speed you're intending to run (unless you're planning on going over the record :-).

Remember to bring documentation that supports your Production classification. Shop manual / owners manuals usually have photos of both sides of bike ... Joe

yup got it. bought this bike for my son when he graduated high school, believe i got everything.

however it does bring up a question, this is a california bike, and has a charcoal emission canister on it....can that be removed, its not in the shop / parts manual picture.

just want to be in 100% complience

and slim the maxton record is like 150+mph, i got tires rated for 168mph i believe thats ok. now another question, [not that i think i will be able to do this] what if i go over 168mph, then what?

No big deal if you go over the speed rating/rule.  The officials will only snip your testicles, place them in a jar of formaldehyde and keep the jar.  You'll get it back once you show up in tech with proper tires for your new speed.

another question...
since i am running in the production class, can i run a 1 size wider rear tire? the reason i ask is that the tires i want do not come in the std size.

RUNT
what i was asking is there a specific gasoline i need to run. do i need to show up with a empty tank. and thanks for the responce.

You should review the rule book before the event. It can save a lot of heartburn.

I suggest you contact Todd Dross - ECTA chief motorcycle tech
