So why can the adjacent raceway continue to operate -- or can it?

They will still run NASCAR, roadracing, and SCCA Solo2 (AutoX) as far as I know.  It's just the dragstrip that is in court.

Once they get the Drag Racing shut down, they will target someone else. Divide and Conquer

A few years ago Werner, my youngest boy, did arenacross on his LSR bike.  He made a few changes to do this.  Those bikes were very loud.  It was a bad deal for everyone, the racers, all of the support crew, the audience, and the neighbors.  Quieting them down a bit would not hurt competition.  Everybody races under the same rules.  It would prevent some permanent ear damage, for sure.

Ah, the rebirth of the street racing that begat drag racing in the first place.  Full circle.

All racing at irwindale has ended. the nascar season the turkey night midget race have all been cancelled. there will be no racing on the oval this year.
The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.

What a shame! If it wasn't the birth place, California was definitely the incubator for the whole hot rod movement.

We've just lost our combined oval, road course and drag strip here in Calgary as well. The city just clawed back the land to expand a landfill site! I feel for you guys.

History teaches us that man does not learn from history.

Drag strip in Tulsa shut down after many years, supposedly the owner had better use for the land. Now reopening, someone saying they will be busy with drags, test & tune, also rock concerts, etc, which should keep it viable.  Serious commercial area sort of in the country, between the airport and the landfill/rock quarry. Hopefully it lasts for a place to see if my car runs at all. Save a long drive to Mokan.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
