we're running XF/BGALT, XF/BFALT and maybe XF/BGC. It's starting to look like a two year project though, with all the changes to the car (it was a drag car) and building a new motor it's taking longer than I'd like.
This is just part of the new roll cage. I had to completely remove the old cage and replace the plates on the floor with 1/4 plates and then reinstall it with a bunch more tubes.

Salt

Nice Build...you know what they say about those Hot Rod Lincolns...Son, they'll drive you to drinkin'.

Nice cage but may I suggest you spend some time thinking about the cage around your feet and the floor. I had a drive shaft break and get in the car with me last year. I had a long discussion with Jeff, his build is:  1973 camaro AA/CGC you can search it or by his member name Bals aSalt. It is a 1973 Camaro but a real strong cage.  Since Speedweek 2011 my chassis guy cut the stock floor out and is replacing it with a 1 3/4 tube floor cage and 1/8 plate floor. It makes it a lot safer and adds weight down low where I want it. That factory floor cut like butter and the drive shaft came through the floor just behind the seat and cut my seat belt almost in two. Cost us two days of repairs and fedex shipments but we made a few runs in Friday.

I love the F motor, I have thought about an F motor for my car.

I look forard to your updates.

If I recall, we were shooting for 7700 rpm (ideally, 8000 for a real fast - for back then, anyway - record).... I know that tire slippage was a problem for us and on the return run for the C/Fuel record, I had the engine up to about 8400 rpm at speed.... it should have been going about 235mph - and I was about 20mph slower than that....

We set the record in C/GAlt in 1988 @ 215.015mph ... and in C/FAlt in 1991 @ 216.695mph... That was before the implementation of the Classic Category... We have gone on to repower the Vega with a 432 C.I.D big block (pro stock style of the late 1990s with like 12 degree heads and all).... we set the B/CGAlt record in 2003 at 237.938 mph, reset it in 2006 at 245.324mph and set the B/CFAlt record in 2008 at 254.153 mph

I hope the attachment works.... This is the Vega

Great info on the Vega...thanks. What did it weigh?

My brother and I would both like to build something to run over 250,,,,,, maybe next year.

Jon,
The Vega, with a small block, back in the old days, weighed 2700 lbs - probably close to 2950 with driver in....

NOW, the car weighs over 5000 lbs BEFORE  the driver gets in..... you want some help for getting your rides to go faster? .... Maybe we can help....

BTW, the transmission info is a big place to start re-sorting your ideas.....

Oh Crap...... 52 days to go .
The days keep falling off the calender ... a little progress being made:

stock rear end:

some measuring:

New set-up:

Back from sheet metal:

The air bags are being replaced with a spring conversion kit and looking into replacing as much rubber with solid bushings as we can.

slow but steady process. I'll get nervous when we get down to 10 days.

Very interested in your build.  We use the 2.3 T for our roadracing car. I hope to see you on the salt.

How I haven't posted here for a bit.
Well I'm a little disappointed in our project right now. We got way behind schedule and about 6 weeks ago we had to figure out what the hell we were doing ( lots of family stuff going on this Summer) . Ultimately we decided we should concentrate on the NA engine and get the car sorted out and then step-up to BGC next year and have the opportunity to shake the turbo car down at El Mirage next year before Bonneville.  So we will be going a bit slower than we wanted, but we are taking one step at a time.  Just seemed to be the "smart" thing to do.

the rear-end was refreshed by Fortin two weeks ago and several quick change sets have been ordered. Between the MKViii and the Mustang we'll have 4 different sizes of rear tires to play with.

So we'll have the MKVIII with a 375+hp 9,000 rpm Esslinger and we'll have the '88 Mustang again. The Mustang engine had a refresh and made 550hp at 7,000 ( it came out of the car making 495 at 7,000)

The Esslinger will be on the dyno early next week......

I'll post up a few progress pictures later on the project:

Crower billet crank for the Esslinger:

I thought I had a few more pics...can't find them.

So's a battleship.

News Report from the Salt:

"Battleship" has a leg on the record at 165.2

car is currently sitting in impound waiting to run tomorrow morning.

if we back it up we will do a gear change and send my dad out to try to top the record.

thanks..off to get some sleep.

the 165.2 pass was the cars 4th full throttle pass. this car has some serious potential.

I think I have the gear and tire combination worked out for my dad to use to bump the record.

hopefully I'll have good news in the morning.
