I called Wayno this afternoon - I think he's more pumped about this event then he was Bonneville.

Make that flatty sing!

Wayno,

Found this pic on another board, about El Mirage this past weekend.

And a video:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoVkuxAduPY&feature=player_embedded

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

You can't make a race horse out of a pig. But if you work hard enough at it you can make a mighty fast pig. - Bob Akin

Wayno,

Congratulations!

So glad you were able to finish your engine in time to run #404 at El Mirage.

I’ve watched and listened to the video that 38flattie posted over and over. Can’t wait to hear it in person

Now that you have all the horses hooked up and pointed in the same direction all you need to do is figure out exactly how much to feed them, give ’em a little kick, and hold on!

Wayno, Do you know what the drag coefficient is on your car or a like type Fiberglass tank?? I am now starting mine and trying to decide  on a few things of which way to go. Im trying to make it as slippery as possible. I noticed on your car you ran the front axle under the car rather than through the body. Does that help the areo under the body? Or is that what you had so you used it? Thanks,Mike Fuller

Mike, that axle location offered nothing in the way of reduced drag.  There will be further streamlining as I go along. This is just the starting point. I have nothing in the way of CD numbers. Maybe one of the grown ups around here do.  :-D Wayno

The only time I've seen mention of such a drag coefficient was in a chart of "representative" values, ranging from .08 (Auto Union Special) to 1.13 (barn door/flat plate). Belly tankers were around .9, if I remember right.

The tank probably has good aero numbers, it those darn wheels and axles you hang on them that screw all that up.

It's a Lakester thing...

Thanx Grumm. Unless you other guys are at Grumm's house you're jumping the gun.  Today is actually my last day of being 65. Except for the pain, 66 sounds a lot older than it feels. I'm still a goofy little kid inside.  :-) Wayno

Happy anniversary of your birth -- whether that day is today or tomorrow, Wayno.  So tell me -- how's the year #65?  I turn 65 this coming Sunday and would like some idea of what I'll need to know to successfully navigate yet another annum.

Jon, all I can say is "Go for it". As you know it was during this previous year that I finally got the Tank to the Salt and El Mirage for that matter.  Simply stated, I'm having the time of my life.  8-) Wayno
