If you want to run in open bike class, as opposed to partially streamlined, don't forget the 5" rule for the height of the tail above the seat cushion.  I had to remove my tail section to run in open class.  Once again, we are all awaiting 2012 rules, which can change everything.

That is why I said earlier that it did not look legal per last years rules.... of course I didn't have a way to measure the 5 inches accurately from the video.  It looked like a section cut from Toy rather than busa to me.

Did y'all notice it is just 1 Feb.... I would expect new rules out in a month or 2.  If you can't wait, build the bike to run at an SCTA event using the SCTA rulebook that will be out in a month or 2....

Yes, Robert, I apologize for being a little impatient.  But the SCTA 2012 rules as well as LTA 2012 rules are now posted.  And (not intending to hijack this thread) I have to have my fairing finished and out of the boat shop by mid March due to other commitments. I will be building mine to SCTA rules, for now, and don't like the idea of having to butcher it to meet new BUB rules, if necessary.

That's a good idea.  Let's see - - Each has only one cylinder, so with only three pistons, three carbs, etc., It should still be cheaper than a 4 cylinder, or way cheaper than a V-8!  I don't know about the 6 wheels and tires, though.

This is what I do.  First, I decide how far the tail should extend beyond the rear wheel, if it will.  Then I build the upper part of the streamlining and the seat.  This is not made to be altered.  Then, I make some skirts out of inexpensive sheet and rivet them on.  These are intended to be easily changed and replaced for the different organization's rules.  This is not original thinking.  Some of the old timers at BUB do this and I copied the idea.  In an evening's work I can switch from AMA to FIM or back, no problem.

Could you use Dzus fittings so it can be taken on and off quickly for different events?

Removable lower tail section is an option. Cut the full tail piece as per AMA rules, add flange, re-fit the cut off piece, add about  a dozen Dzus fasteners, and you're done.  I'd like to do this if I have time.
