Any OLD custom painters around?  I need some help using some old product.

I am in possession of several pounds of OLD  Pearl paint mix.  This is the stuff processed from fish scales.

Ultra Ray Pearl/ Essence Corporation
also Koppers  but just a pound.
I have searched on line for any info, but not much is out there.

It is in paste form and I would like to adapt it to modern base coat/clear coat technology.  Anybody an OLD time custom painter.

My father was a paint guru and did this stuff in the 50's and 60's.  I would like to use his material on the liner.  Several panels are ready to go to painter and I really want to do this.
All his work long ago was nitrocelulose laquer, then acrylic laquer, but I'm thinking that cutting this a bit with Dupont Chromasystem basemaker then just mixing with clear may work.
Anyone have experience with trying something like this.

Rick, Glens connection will probably cover it but if you need more info I have pals that play with the old stuff as well. Cool that you are using the peral and making a sexy racecar! cheers

Hey Rick,

Raw Morano Pearl paste was something I used in the 70's.  It has been replaced by a dry synthetic Pearl powder.  The process the same... in like repainting a pearl white Caddy.... A white base coat, pearl mixed in clear for the mid coat, and a catalyzed clear for the top coat.  You just mix the pearl paste into the midcoat clear,  I'm thinking one teaspoon of pearl paste to one quart of ready to spray clear.

Thanks Ralph, I apreciate the input,

but this stuff predates Murano.  It's actual pearl essence processed from the back of fish scales.   I have used Murano on some parts and like the effect, and I probably would like the modern pearls, but I really want the old pearl from dear old departed DAD.  I'm not a painter now, but grew up with a Binks gun in my hand.  I still can do a little, but leave real painting to a pro who does it all day every day.

I remember my dad telling me that 1 pound makes 2 to 2.5 gallons of mix.  Back then, just water white clear laquer. (normal clears back then were a tad yellow)

I know of it being a three step process, but now we want to use modern materials.
We probably be using Sikkens, (water born base coat) and are debating using just base coat clear binder (rather than solvent based clear) for the second coat. then one coat of modern solvent based clear.  Not looking for an actual show finish and we will experiment a bit, but being to talk to an old guy who has actually done this will save some time.
Dad was never able to come with me to the salt but he smiles on my efforts these days.
Hopefully the guy that Glen put me in touch with will be able to help a little more.
Thanks again

I would just stir in a little pearl paist in the water base binder and see if it stays suspended then see if it goes through a HVLP ok and evenly. You still have to use a solvent based clear so you could still put it in that also.
