When I worked in China we would take the train or bus. Never fly! Too many accidents people did not walk away from. International flights got the good crews. We tried brushing the wings on landing on the last domestic flight I took in China. Both sides! The bus was OK for half day travel lengths. The train was the way to go.
We would take the high speed night train. No need to book a hotel and when you arrived it was morning and off you went. These were 80 mph speeds. Regular track and not the mile welded stuff. They were just finishing the bullet train when I left. Next time I go to China I will ride it... I think. Some accidents as they have added to the lines and number of trains. I am not sure of this really fast one. All China design, build, metalurgy, track, electrics, etc. Issues galore and then you add in the operators, yikes! Price wise the train was cheeper, but I was getting China pricing as I had a green card.
I wonder if I can safety harness myself to a seat, wearing my sfi 20 suit and helmet. May not help if the train comes off the tracks.
