Shipping a car NC to Oregon - a first-timer's questions

I looking at the possible purchase of a engineless race car (plus spares) that is in North Carolina.  Having zero experience shipping a car, and not wanting to bother business people during the holiday season for an estimate for a transaction that may not take place, I'd thought I'd bother you guys, instead.   

How much, in general, am I looking at for 2800 miles, engineless, 3000lbs (?), North Carolina to Oregon, with no great rush to get it here?

Any recommendations for a shipper to look at, other than Jon's uship.com?

What am I missing, what do I need to know?  Any help, recommendations appreciated.

Talk to BenD on the HAMB, he does it for a living and is tops to deal with. I am not just saying this because he is in our club, before that he shipped a couple cars I sold out of the area.

Good on ya mate for getting this piece of Ford 2.3T history.

As I posted in another thread, I almost picked this up last October at Maxton. Tough decision but I did not have room in my garage.
I am building a Dodge Rampage for LSR and I have a 1972 Triumph GT6 that I am doing a Ford 2.3T swap for street fun.

When you get it, I think you will agree that the craftsmanship on this car is really incredible.....You have not thrown your money away.

You need to get the new Esslinger Tall Block with a Volvo head and go for the F/PS record.

Hope to see you and the Merkur on the salt in 2012.

I had a problem with my 240 lbs ass in that seat.....Just would not fit (LOL).
All kidding aside, the craftsmanship is incredible.

Thanks to all who provided transport sources.  I learned a lot today about moving cars cross-country. 

Transport cost will be much less than I feared: it's more because I want door-to-door; it's more because the car is a non-driver.

Now just to pick the best combo of cost and reputation.

The car is being sold as last raced, minus the engine, transmission, coil (!) and seat.  The seat in the Merk was a "Butler Built".  Jason has a similar (looks like the same construction) seat:



"Yes that seat is still available it is $500. This will be the last one at that price I have to tpay more like $700 for them now."

If it's of a suitable size, should I grab it (free shipping!)?

I'm just a poor boy living off of my s.s.    I'm going to take little baby steps: 2.5 crank/piston/rod kit into a 2.3 block with the Esslinger billet main caps; get my iron Boport stage 1 head upgraded and cam up, etc, etc.

I wonder, though, if the aftermarket "tall block" (I think Rick said on TF that Ford made 223 of them) would be legal in production.

Actually, I'm thinking about upgrading my quickchange, substituting it for the 9" and go after the F/BGC record that Road&Track jerk set this year in his "sabotaged Suzuki" (and, it's a lot softer record).

I am excited for you in that you got a really good car and, I am assuming, at a really good price. 
I hope the shipping thing works out for you so you can get this.
Your plan sounds good for F/BGC. Get the record from the "Jerk".
I'm not sure of the Esslinger Tall block being legal.....Just threw it out there.

About the seat that Jason has, just make sure you can fit in it.
As I said in my other post, my 240 lbs fat ass did not fit in the Butler.
I have a Kirkey (17 1/2" - I think) Full Containment seat in my Rampage and it is a comfortable fit.
