Camaro Shakedown run
« on: December 10, 2011, 06:12:24 PM »
Amy and I had the pleasure today to take her camaro to the local drag strip for its maiden trip down any track. Although she only made a couple of passes it was validation and educational. Earlier today I hauled the car to the front end shop for alignment and my guy did a bang up job. $49.95 + tax, money well spent. Amy reports the car runs straight and true and surprisingly smooooooth. She still has a little lern'en to do on the Z-gate shifter but she'll get there. Need a little tuning, replace "cheep" starter - don't engage correctly all of the time. She was a good girl and kept it under 100 for now. Found out that the inertial switch for the fuel pump works and that I have to move it a bit as she bumped it on her second pass and she ran out of gas on the return lane. Now that the big stuff is done and tested time to work on the details. Happy day. :-D :-D got to get ready to hit a local bar where an exband mate is playing his last gig.

She sounds like a good student. It only gets funner with seat time. Take lots of pictures and start a scrap book and her history from now into the future, she will cherish this in a few years. :-D

Half the battle is learning to drive it.  You work, and adjust, and figure stuff out, and then all of a sudden, you're faced with the unimaginable spectre of driving the darned thing!

Smart move on the alignment - wish I had done that before I went to North Carolina.

Cheers to the Hubby and Wife LSW team from Swansboro!

Get ready - Ohio beckons . . .

When we get our Mustang running one of the drivers will be my nephew and he can't drive a standard. Should be interesting.  What class are you running? Good luck with the Camaro.

Saltracer1 we are building the car for C/GALT. We ran her Kia Spectra for a couple  of years in G/GSS while we learnt LSR until a Silverodo ate it for lunch. I didn't post a build diary as I didn't think too many folks cared to see a plain old camaro build.

Sounds like you guys had fun!

Tanks Cwis and all we wheely had a good time. Now comes the hard work of the details. lots ( not many) of little things, door window seals, inside door panels ect. Time to move the car and trailer out of the way to clean up the shop for the "thrash" detritus.

It's always a long haul during the build, especially toward the end. The reward definitely comes the first time the car hits the track. :-D :-D :-D
Congratulations on finishing the main part of the build. Having run the car it will be much easier to do the final details.

Good luck to the two of you for the 2012 season.
