Yeah, I'm certainly considering the Loring July event. I believe I'm in pretty good shape for the inspection.
I hope to get my fire systems changed from foam to FE-36 this winter- I hate the thought of trying to exit the cramped cockpit if it were full of slippery foam.

Late note: Wow- don't know how I missed it, but rules (both SCTA & LTA) REQUIRE(!!) a Halon-like agent in the driver's compartment. I'm glad I was planning to change it this winter anyway. Bottle is on its way to FireFox to be filled with Halotron-1.

Just received the bottle back from FireFox, filled with Halotron-1. Wow- almost two months  turnaround. :-( Glad I wasn't in a hurry! At least the price was decent- under $300.
That's for the cockpit system. Not sure whether I'll eventually change the engine system also.

A question from a dumb bike guy...  Will releasing halon in a closed environment like a cockpit suffocate the driver?

Yes. Some of the hospital recover times have been due to the effects of Halon. But consider the alternative . . .

Yet airliners use exclusively Halon. The only legal production of Halon is for the airlines.

When the Halon ban was introduced airlines worldwide squawked and lobbied against the ban saying there was no equivalent substitute. They were right . . . and granted a "temporary" reprieve. Research is on-going to find or invent a non-ozone producing substance with the efficacy of Halon. Don't hold your breath . . . yes, pun intended.

I would really like to use my fixed-up '59 GMC pickup to haul the lakester, but would hate to scratch the pristine paint with fuel jugs, tools, etc. So I just finished building a "free standing bedliner" of 1/2" plywood, which will mount on four existing bed floor bolts with 1" clearance underneath and all around it. It's on the small side but the truck already has a weatherproof storage box across the front 18" of the bed, so I hope there will be room for everything. I'm now working on a fitted heavy-tarp cover for the bedliner.

Jack, Does that 59 GMC have a Pontiac V8 in it by chance?
Just a guess, Don

If you just Google "Halon" the industry are very busy with the line "Halon is completely safe and non-toxic" which reminds of several other valuable industrial chemicals over the years... I did find this... Airline flight staff who have been exposed have lingering  pulmonary inflammation issues years after the event.

Don- Yes, the GMC left the factory with a 336 (actually 337) c.i. Pontiac V8 (a small-bore version of the car's 389). But when I bought the truck someone had swapped in (a better term would be "hacked") a late Pontiac 350. So I built and installed a modified '58 Pontiac engine- which is outwardly identical to the 336 (well, if you ignore the SD Tri-Power intake!). But it's very modern inside- 382 c.i., 9.1:1 C.R., re-designed combustion chambers, hydraulic roller cam, crank trigger ignition, long branch manifolds with 2.5" stainless duals with hand-built copies of the rare GTO option VOE mufflers (switch on the dash makes them straight-through), etc.

Jack, In my late teens I worked as a mechanic at a GMC dealership and one of our customers had a 59 pickup with the Pontiac engine.
It didn't take too much guess work to figure that's what you would be driving.

That is a very nice truck.

The liner actually fits in the bed!

Entries submitted for both 2020 LTA events. Yes, I'm anxious to get on the track!

I'm bummed. LTA has cancelled the July event. Just as I was congratulating myself on being on-schedule with tasks on the lakester. :x

Oh well... I'm sure I'll come up with more "improvements" to keep me busy until the Harvest Event.
