Why is danny trying to go 420mph when everyone else in the class is trying to go 500mph.

maybe because that is the number he needs to set the record... doesn't mean he doesn't want or plan to go faster.  His eye is on the first ball... no record stands forever unless they retire the class
Ask me how fast we're planning to go at any race, I'll give you the number that takes the record.  cheers

I think it's neat they already have pictures of the salt in 2012.  Looked pretty good!  Wonder what the date was.

After watching the video on Danny's update to the Challenger 2.5 it appears that he is planning to go with a pair of injected nitro 500 inch hemis. I am wondering if he may be planning to run them with the billet block similar to the 911 roadster and the BMR roadster? Not having to be concerned with a water system could certainly make things somewhat simpler and according to John Beck he feels that they can run the 911 roadster past the three mile without heating problems, he says they just need a bigger fuel tank. When you are looking at the speeds that these people are looking to run nothing is "simple".

I know Danny looks at this site on occasion so DT if you read this let us know.

Rex...looking at the block in one of the videos you can see the water passages.

  Also I read 1500 hp per engine X 2 = 3000 HP pretty conservative.

A blown hemi on 50% nitro would be over 3000 hp X 2= 6000 hp enough for well over 500 mph.

I'm sure Danny and his team know this, why they don't announce a faster speed I don't know, but a lot in

common with Danny's streamliner and Marlo's.

It seems the article said they wanted to go 420mph to break the existing record [ at that time] not mentioning the potential top speed of streamliner.

I know some of the fuel heavy hitters are using close to 30 gals per run [but more %] so they would need a pretty big tank or tanks.

I admit to muting the audio while watching the video (at these late hours!)- so, maybe y'all can shortcut me to this answer- has Danny forsaken his desire to run a brace of Ranger V12 engines?

George Bently used to say, (paraphrased) "better to be conservative, if you give big horsepower numbers, people expect big speed numbers."

Thanks for that one Ron, I hadn't thought about George in a while. His zip-up boots that were never zipped up, his jeans hanging off his scrawny butt & everyone was called "Hoss". And could he tell a story!
Thanks, Sid.

I have the Summer's brothers streamliner data in my bvillepro computer program -frontal area -cd-ect-and hp at 2550 which gives a top speed or out the back door of 427mph. Bvillepro gives speed in hundreds and distance traveled so one can determine the seconds in the last mile [or any where traveled].
The results show 8.69 sec  or average speed of 414.269 pretty close to one of their times.

Doubling the hp to 5100 hp and changing the gearing to 1.1 shows 559.8 mph.

Stopped by Steve Davis' place the other day and talked to Danny as he was working on his streamliner, he is "flat out" and trying to make the salt some time this year. The question was asked why Danny is "only" talking about 420 mph, and as he said the record is 417 so 420 will get the record. Several cars have ran considerably above the 417 record but as Danny says they haven't done it both ways and exit speed is not the record and he wants the record.

Looking at the car it is pretty obvious that it was built by some pretty talented guys, Nye Frank, John Buttera, Pat Foster to name a few so the car is very well designed and constructed even though it was built in 1968. Danny is a true master fabricator and he said working with Steve has really made him step up his skills. It is a beautiful car and has some great talent working on it and Danny is a great guy and truly driven on this project, I can only wish him the best.

The one and only. Sadly we lost John and Pat Foster both in the last few years.
