Yeah, and some of it's accurate.

I never miss a chance to tease Jon.  No excuse - he's never done nothin' to me.  Maybe it's because he's a Uper?

I saw "Ohio Primer" and I thought this thread might be a discussion on midwest paint preparation techniques.

It's properly spelled "Yooper" - and pronounced that way, too.  For those of you that are full of density this morning, we live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan -- the "U. P.", pronounced just like it should be.  From there to "Yooper" is pretty easy.

The UP is abut 1/3 of Michigan's land area - and about 3% of the state's population lives (t)here.  It's sparsely populated, in other words, and we're pretty much satisfied with things that way.  A commonly-offered saying (by a Yooper, that is) is along the lines of "Come up here for a visit, spend your money, then go home and stay there".

Okay, back to White Castle.  I tell you the story about the place some other time, but suffice it to say that I've enjoyed the 'burgers since I was a little kid.  Nancy and I usually get some on our way to or from Maxton.  Glad that Columbus (probably the nearest 'Castle location to Wilmington) isn't too far off the route.

White Castle World Headquarters is here in Columbus, Wendy's is in Dublin, Charley's Subs in Powell, Max and Erma's in Columbus, and a host of others. Then there is Cincinnati Chili, a completely different subject.

And from a paint perspective, "Ohio Primer" would be Rust... :-D

Here in Wisconsin, we refer to the UP as "The Lost Territories".  As I understand it, the original Northwest Territories agreement put the southern border of Michigan south of Toledo, and straight over to the southern tip of Lake Michigan.  Toledo wanted nothing to do with Michigan and insisted on being in Ohio, so to compensate Michigan, the US Government cut the top off of what was supposed to be Wisconsin and gave it to Michigan.

We were also supposed to have Chicago, but being the last of the territories to get our act together, we got the short end of that stick, too.

Or maybe not.

Dan, I agree with you about the difference between White Castle and Greasetals. Thanks for the primer on our new race home. I would still be pronouncing the state name as Uh hi o. Had it sdrawkcab again.

I have a neighbor with a cat that loves WC more than catnip - weird kitty!!!  :-o

Ohio is one of the places where you find traffic cones for 5 miles narrowing the interstate down to one lane and backing morning traffic up for 20 miles without a worker in sight. God help you if you have an out of state plate and need to move over a lane, aint happening ! The Ohio Turnpike is like the last lap at Talledega, mornings & afternoons. Even more pleasant during a Cleveland lake effect snow storm and its solid ice before they dump all the salt that came from Bonneville on it. Lived there, & left, no offence to anyone living there, just my experiences

I just looked up the nearest White Castle location on the White Castle website.  It seems to be on Corwin Nixon Blvd. in South Lebanon, near I-71.  Certainly within a reasonable commute on Friday evening following tech inspection.  This Ohio location seems better all the time!
