It kills me that I had to miss it. But in today's economy my business had to rank above racing this week. I heard there were a bunch of cars and scoots, great for ECTA!

I hope Joe and Keith can post the final records for Maxton that will stand forever or at least until we are allowed to return?

Although my experience with Maxton was short compared to most...it was a great experience. I mean, how many LSR courses will you ever run that have a dog leg at the beginning and the end?

Maxton had a personality.

My lifelong dream was to go 200 at Bonneville and without Maxton that never would have happened. To everyone that made Maxton possible...Thank you and have a safe trip home.

Ah, from the wonderful lodging place we've found inLaurel, Maryland -- a batch of photos from the last event ever at the Maxton Airport.  First of all - a few stars of the landracing.com Forum:

Another shot of Charles and the Stude:

And the ever-so-fast and famous Milwaukee Midget.  Chris said his last pass was at dang near 92 MPH -- about 4 times faster than his pass at Bonneville.  I wish I go go four times faster. . .

Okay, a bunch of photos without captions.  Enjoy 'em, folks.

Mike Meirle ran something over 150 this morning:

Thomas Cronan, father to be in early January, poses with the Brit bike he's been flogging in the past few months:

Classy tow vehicle in front of the Van Blarcom roadster -- the fastest roadster at Maxton:

He slowed down while cruising the pits -- so I could take this photo:

Streamliner under construction, with a 2.4L engine:

When I grow up I'll be a "real-size" lakester:

Kawasakis need to hang out together:

The electric bike whirred quietly through the lights at 97 mph:

How's this for "unique" -- a turbo 'Busa!

A Hercules -- Wankel-motored for those of you that don't recognize the marque:

Lookit all the lineup - up to 3/4 mile at the longest.  by far -- the longest-ever prestaging line at Maxton - about 150 entries:

Ours truly - one last photo of Nancy and me at Maxton.  For what it's worth, I did get in one run, Saturday, with the big winds blowing ("Run only if you want to", said Keith to those of us at the line, "and only if you'll run under 200".  I obligingly made a 185.74 mph pass.  And had a ball, one last time on the old track.

Starter Al at the get-together last night:

Stitch the next three or four together and you'll end up with a panoramic shot of the pits area.  Look at all of 'em:

Hey - another photo of Charles Venable, driving the pit vehicle:

Did I post this photo of joe Ledford's car yesterday?:

I quit - after this one:

That's all for this evening, folks.  Bedtime.  See you tomorrow -- and thanks for all of the fun at Maxton.  We had a ball.  By the way, we've got a few of the Maxton dash plaques remaining.  If you'd like one -- I'll make you a deal.  Ready?  We were selling them for $10 each at the track, and since there are some remaining -- drop a note or a PM to me and we'll supply them to you for the $10 -- including postage.  If you'd like some personal information on yours - and want a bigger plaque (standard is about 2 1/2 x 4) -- We'll send them to you for $15 each and include postage.  Drop a note and send an address, too, if you please.

G'night.

The 9384 is the last Curtis ever built.  Talked with the owner (ashamed - I can't recall his name) initially designed as an all out road racing car.  Before the builder passed away in his 80's (he used to work for Curtis) he wanted to sell it to someone who he knew would race it.

Just an absolutely elegant piece of work.  Small block Ford, about 1700 lbs.
