The Fossett/Breedlove car is virtually ready to run.  All Breedlove needs to do is beat 764mph to get the record back.  The car can do that now.  Bloodhound is still being built.  When Breedlove ran the car before he was over 764mph at least once. Breedlove can do this, you watch.

Additionally the Fossett/Breedlove car is located in Reno, NV.  3 hours from Black Rock?  I would be surprised if Breedlove did not get this job done.

I hardly think so!(that he was over 746 MPH)

Reports of him doing 675 we rumored, but I don't think that speed was ever substantiated.

Stll, if anyone can top 746, and someone will, Craig Breedlove is a good bet! I sure wish him all the luck in the world!

My bet is on American Eagle... I like the sound of that.
 Good luck Ed.

Did you mean the "American Eagle" project which is rumoured to be making a return to the outright record scene or the "North American Eagle" programme run by Ed Shadle?

I thought Craig Breedlove was going to build a new car, not buy back the Fosset vehicle, which of course started as Craig's Sonic Arrow.

Not sure there will be many teams ready to run in 2012 or even 2013 if the economic climate stays much as it is now.

I heard from a guy that is involved with the Reno air race scene that Craig is building a whole new car with twin engines.
Don't know for sure what is really going on.

Rosco McGLashan says the Aussie Invader 5R will go from 0 to 1000 MPH in 20 seconds. Seems like to me a driver mite pass out at those G-Forces. Mite need a remote shut down.

Well, just extrapolating, a Dragster goes from 0-300 in four seconds, so (of course) could go to 1500 in 20 seconds, if they just had room.  And they got some built-in shut-offs, too.

Sorry Malcolm.. Yes I meant North American Eagle. I'm pretty sure my Wife had a similar past with that Car/Plane when she was growing up at Edwards back in the X-15 days, So I'm kinda prejudicial.

Stan, you're not the first to extrapolate Landracing speeds from Dragracing speeds.   Wayno

Well......I just called Bill Breedlove about what Craig's intentions may be.  He is going to call Craig and find out.  Bill was on Craig's team when he was testing and running the car for the 2 years prior to Fossett's ownership of it.  Bill is an accomplished racer in his own right and is Craig's cousin.

Just saw this on Foxnews.  Maybe Breedlove will have to step up his game?

This fella is still many years out before he can even run systems tests. Neat concept though.

Bill Breedlove got back to me.  He confirmed that they had a documented speed of 675 mph that day.  He said that he now doubts that the car ever went supersonic.  Based on his notes from that run on pressure and density he calculated the Sound Barrier to be close to 738mph.  He implied there were instruments on the car showing faster speeds but would not now commit to any number like he did at the time.
He also confirmed that Craig Breedlove gave an interview and that he also "penned" a twin engined supersonic vehicle.  He also said "based on financing and timing and finding a driver, maybe inside the family or outside the family".  He could build another car but he would not be the driver.

So I must now agree that the Spirit of America probably never went supersonic.
