Engine Location in Modified Mid/Mini Pickup
« on: October 15, 2011, 07:03:32 PM »
After reading the rule book I see that the engine in a Modified Mid/Mini Pickup can be set back no more than 2%. I was wondering if I install an inline 6 cylinder engine in the truck can I mount it through the factory wall..front located at a legal 2% and the back of the engine inside the drivers area? I guess my question is...Do I have to keep the factory firewall untouched or can I cut it, install the engine and build a new firewall around the back of the engine?

This is not the place for an answer that you can count on at inspection. But all that aside, the rule only effects the front of the engine as far as I know. The rear falls where it falls. Check with the proper person for an answer you can print ont for your log book.

Based on my conversation with some pickup folks at Bonneville this year, they don't care about modifying the firewall. We beat the crap out of ours to make room and then were told that we could have cut and boxed for clearance.

You have piqued my curiosity though. What truck and what engine might you be talking about?  We run the current C/MMP record holding GMC Sonoma.

Thanks everybody.....took the time to go back through a lot of pages of SCTA Rule Questions and have come to the same conclusion.....javajoe79, don't want to go into details of something thats just an idea at this time but I will tell you that it won't be C/MMP.

I figured as much since I couldn't think of a C inline 6. It's all good though. Have fun with the build and when you are ready to tell us what it is, please do.
