Luggage Rack Remove for /GC legal?
« on: October 06, 2011, 12:18:12 PM »
I'm reading my rulebook for /GC and assuming one wanted to build a stationwagon or minivan, would the roof mounted luggage rack be removable under the "minor chrome trim and emblems" allowance?

Cant you use it to your advantage and build a aero luggage carrier like one of those Thule units? Make it big enough to cover your whole roof and design the end to act like a spoiler. It wouldn't have to be that tall.   Tony

I'm sure this isn't news to you guys, but the rules seem a little... ambiguous?

The "contour" definition seems to cover the side panel trim but I didn't find a specific mention of the luggage rack.

I know, if you've seen one minivan on the salt you've probably seen a hundred...  :-D

I think that "chrome accessories" can be removed.

Did all of them have luggage racks. If not take yours off and who cares?

I need a /GC mentor to answer these questions and not crap up the forum with them.

I'm not trying to reinvent land speed racing (although my vehicle of choice may be a bit unconventional) but I really don't want to show up to tech and end up disappointed that I removed or altered something that I shouldn't have.

In your rule book there should be an administrator for the GC class. I would send an email with your questions to get a straight answer if you feel the need too. Or look around and find someone else in that class and ask them.

You didn't answer my question. Is the rack in question standard. Did every Wagon/van come with one?

To the best of my research, the rack was standard and came on every vehicle.

From what ive heard and understand tech inspectors are stricked on GC class. So if all mini vans came with it, keep it on like RichFox said.

Yes best info is to contact the appropriate official from the listing in the rule book. Any thing you get here will be strictly unofficial (best guess) information.

You might also contact a dealer and find out if at the time that vehicle was sold was that a deletable option on delivery.
On my car the rear spoiler could be deleted when you ordered the car. On later models the manufacturer did not allow spoiler delete so it could change from year to year.
