everybody did good in that situation.  The track should think about having their fire crew dressed in Nomex however so they can get closer to help in those kinds of situations.

Looks like they were using water fire extinguishers :? didn't see any foam or CO2 clouds.

Those guys need to learn from the fellows in the Wendover fire truck at the Shootout. There was a hot bike starting from about the two. He went through the gears and was about to enter the timed mile when he turned up the wick. There was a huge POP and a pretty good ball of flame out the left side that seemed to get bigger as seconds marched on. The bike slowed faster than I thought possible, but then I was watching, it wasnt my pants on fire. Then the rider laid it down on its right side and stepped back a ways, then he stepped back a ways further. Smoke was big and black, and from two miles flame was growing fast. When the driver of the fire truck got there, the fellow in the red suit walked in and the fire was out in a split second. Amazing how fast the fire went away. I hope the rider was OK and bought the fire crew a round. The Wendover fire crew impressed the hell out of this old guy.

Our local track has firefighters suited up AND PREPARED. The official that dropped the steps and jumped in was gallant but stupid. Smartest one there was the driver that stayed suited up and jumped in!

Sometimes we think all of the safety rules are a burden until we see something like this.

Have a look at this from Australia in 1999
A pretty horrific crash from which the driver was relatively unscathed
Try and count how many of the other drivers stopped to make sure the driver got out in case there was a fire

That was pretty cool the way they all jumped in. You guys have some neat racing down there.
