I still have no idea what its about.  From what i can see its a bunch of idiots running around a hot desert.  Much like El Mirage but without race cars and bikes but include race cars and bike the idiocy becomes acceptable and logical.
Sex. drugs and altered states of mind. Sure there is ART CARS but the gist of it is a big party with free love, drugs and all the pillars that the liberal hippies from the 60s are holding onto...................except the fact that they have been co-opted and turned into a demographic :roll:

 I don't know, but I hear it has become much more commercial than was ever the idea. Which , if true, would tend to drive away the original core. When the media finds the counter culture, it becomes main stream. You attract FANs, Hanger On;s People with recent additions to their new Bucket list. An instant tradition. We are seeing some of the same thing at Bonneville. But many of the new people are out on the course running cars. They been bit It's not something to do to be cool It's just what you do. And the records keep getting higher

Glen;
From what I read, after 50,000 people leave the desert, there is zero indication anything has gone on there. They leave the sight as it was when they arrived. This is part of the Burning Man philosophy.

  Having been the last person to leave the salt at Speedweek, I want to reafirm that the Salt looked absolutley clean other than one shipping container, that may have been left for another meet.
  The entire cast and crew at Speedweek 2011 should be held up as a example to the BLM and other's that we are, in fact, great steward's of Nature's resources...............   Bob

Yep, never any damage to the salt . . .

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Dean --

You're out of line!

Those folks were helping do a survey to measure salt depth in a southeast direction.  They went to great expense and used quite a few vehicles before they were successful as you have shown.  They even cabled off the area so no one could be hurt falling in.  Unfortunately, the cable did interfere with another vehicle's forward progress in the night.

Another plan they executed was trying to screw a Modified Roadster into the underlying salt.  After several attempts, I understand this project was scrapped.

I recall the show that they were building the roadster.   "Al" the chassis guy, stated to the 2 fabricators that were building the car that they were using a street rod front end , not a race car front end.    They replied something to the effect of that is what the boss wants ... well I guess Al knew something.

One of the reasons Al left.  He didn't want to be associated with the build.  The missus was calling the shots.

  That shot of the "trench" also show's just how thin the salt is.  And that was three years ago.
