Burning Man 2011
« on: September 06, 2011, 06:40:32 PM »
Just read some interesting info on Burning Man, 2011 in the Black Rock Desert, on BLM property. This year, for the first time, it was sold out. They sold a maximum of 50,000 tickets for this event, at $300 per ticket. Do the math. Someone is making a few bucks!

Black Rock City, LLC is the for-profit company that runs Burning Man.

Ticket prices were $210-$360

In 1986 the price was free. Held on Baker Beach in San Francisco. 20 people showed up.
By 1995 the price was $35. 4,000 people showed up at Black Rock.
Attendance was capped for the first time this year at 50,000.

Imagine if 50,000 spectators showed up at Bonneville! The infrastructure is huge.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Someone mentioned Burning Man when we were at Bonneville.  I admit I had no idea what it is.  I just looked it up and I still have no idea what it is.  I'm now wondering if there is a Burning Man site with people looking to buy pre-entries.

Yes there is. Message board, community you name it. A hot rod pal who is an old hippy goes every year. It is what folks still think the Sturgis Rally is like. I have seen the pics, trust me, anything goes.

I still have no idea what its about.  From what i can see its a bunch of idiots running around a hot desert.  Much like El Mirage but without race cars and bikes but include race cars and bike the idiocy becomes acceptable and logical.

Nort, look a little further back there is some really really mad stuff that has been built for that.....but as with any event even SW there's a big crowd who tag along........then again,I can find something I like in pretty much anything except Death Metal or Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church.

Not for everyone but I have to say when I first saw pics of some of the creations I just went wow.........parallel universe to hot-rodding.

Lets don't encourage them to use the salt, we have enough with the mining without them building fires and leaving a big mess for others to clean up.
