Here's a ten-year-old shot of the San Berdoo Roadsters D/StR.  Back when it was purdy.  First year at SpeedWeek.  Set the record at 190 -- now 219.

Yeah it's a sunset but if you tilt your head and squint just a little you can see the pits.

That dust is sinister.

You have to tear down to clean the rig even if it doesn't run.

Sorta like Muroc.

To over come this it would take a pressurized inclosed trailer with a good amount of pressure and filter system. In the old days when people were allowed to smoke we could find leaks on the aircraft around the rivets and panel seams from the tobacco stains. I don't think you could seal a trailer enough to stop it.

At Bonneville the salt is a major issue and I remember one year when the Rice bros. Put a tarp under thrir trailer (full length) before pulling it on the salt. It made a big difference. I guess a belly pan might work as well but not cheap to do and salt would still get into places that would require dropping that as well to clean the bottom.

Going on El Mirage dry lake I usually drive about 15 to 20 mph and the vacuum behind the truck still sucks dust into the camper shell, Ya just can't win. Lets go racing.

This a Frank Kletschkus' "light painting" of the Spirit of Sunshine. Frank uses a torch to light the subject on a long exposure. We met Frank at the salt and he lived with me in Melbourne for a bit.Originally from Germany he's been to Gairdner four or five times. He's a professional photographer and journalist and a veteran bike fan , he's kind of wandered the world for years and dragged his original clip wartime Indian Chief with him.You can see more of his stuff here......
