Yep,

I'll be there. El Mirage on the 10th - 11th. Direct from there to World of Speed for a week. Then cut over to the Cook course and begin planting mile markers before the day ends.

Gone from home for another 14-15 day stretch.

This club seems to be getting bigger all the time!

Dan, my degree is in History, and compiling complete historical records is never easy - thanks for taking on the challenge.

I've had the opportunity to be at every Shoot Out from the beginning. I've witnessed Dan Warner at work.... drilling holes in the Salt for the markers (every year).  You have to love a guy that does so many things for land speed racing...and then goes out and get this hands dirty at a thankless job.  I love ya Dan!!!

No thanks JD,

I talked Mike into letting me buy a 1" drill bit. Now I have to decide on the Lowes or the Harbor Freight one.

I bought a Tanaka 262HS 1.3 hp the last year I did a lot of drilling. Got tired of not being able to get thru a day with SCTA ones. Tried to keep it "salt free" but some things still hppen to them coated. Maybe I'll be up there next year helping you and Mike if everything works out here at work.....JD

Glen alerted me to a couple of remarks from the Propster today on this subject.

As many of you know this person is unable to post to many internet boards. A long and evolved story that had a successful outcome.

First he attacked me on the members of the club that were singled out for inclusion into the newly formed 400 MPH Chapter. He pointed out an omission of Ms Kitty O'Neil and her record, I don't know if it was FIA certified, of 500+ MPH set at Alford Dry Lake.

I had to point out to him that the criteria was that the person honored must first of all be a member of the club. Ms. O'Neil is not. There have been racers awarded an Honorary Membership by other boards in the past. Franklin should take up the issue of the record with the sitting board at the time of the accomplishment.

Second, he stated that Art Arfons should have been recognized as a member of the 300 MPH Chapter before the formation of the 400 MPH Chapter. I pointed out to him that Art has always been the first name listed. He is stuck in the past, I don't think he reads anything beyond his beloved 1974 rulebook and therefore is out of the loop, so to speak.

Because I am no longer on his email list and have him blocked I did not receive these attacks on me and the club. I ask in the future that he bring to the public any problems that he has with me and the club.

Oh, that's right - he can't!

And if I remember correct Kitty is a longtime South Dakota resident! South Dakota Magazine did a nice write-up on her. She is in the SD Hall of fame in Pierre and from what I have heard, quite content with her laurels

Your a lucky guy.   I wouldn't loose any sleep over him.  What you and the other volunteers go through should be commended.  A lot of us including myself have been unhappy with rules or decisions that  don't go our way.  But the fact is, its people like you that make it possible for us to enjoy this sport. If they don't like how the two club is being run, get a car and get into the two club and become an officer and propose the changes.  Sorry about the rant, but sometimes I get flustered when my friends get picked on.  Tony
