On the Scene at SpeedWeek 2011

Ray and I decided that we should have a separate thread for the photos and other stuff that we'll offer to you folks from SpeedWeek this year -- so here it is.  We saw Ray (the Rat) at Land's End an hour ago and he was off, in the Burb, as he calls his pristine (?!) Suburban to start documenting this event.  I'll get some photos, too, and sooner or later all of you folks will have things you want to post - or request.

So -- use this thread to see what's going on and ask what you need to ask.  Have fun, folks -- it's already starting out here.

Pristine, my sainted aunt!  It's a semi-clean one (or two or...) owner that was only driven to church by a little...well, never mind.  It gets me here and there.

Yep.  I'm here.  It's a good place to be.  Right now I'm parked at the Bend in the Road...but on the other side if the Bend...Ya can't miss the Honey Buckets (Port-a-Potties.)  I'm online using my Android phone as a tethered cellular modem.  It sure ain't fiber optic speed.

First to clarify things.  Here's where ya can't camp.

The one hour parking is only for the gravel area.  I guess the No Fireworks is the same,  but I'd need further clarification on that.

Then there's some of the Land's End gang.

Next post will be where ya CAN camp.

Here are some of the places you CAN camp:

The flats at the Bend (looking north)

The flats east of the Bend

and another shot of the flats looking south.

You can also camp on the west side if the road, across from the flats and up the hill on Jack Rabbit Flats where those folks who like peace and quiet stay.

I plan to park in the gravel area for 59 minutes to THANK everyone that sent best wishes and prayers

for Doris:

It seems that the late night excursion to the hospital and the meds that were prescribed as a result have turned things in Doris' favor.

We went back to the primary care physician a few minutes ago and she has shown an adequate recovery.

WENDOVER.......here I come.

I'll be at Motel 6 by 1:30 PM Utah time.

THANKS for the calls and prayers.

IB    Go find that special Hot Rod Magazine (Sept 2011) and look on page 60 or 61.

There is a foto of Burt Munro  in the upper right corner of the cover.

You is in there.

Thanks for the kind wishes.

I'll be pushing Freud in his wheelchair to the rental car counter in a few hours. He still thinks that sympathy deal gets him a discount.

Putting myself in Bret Kepner's hands is because he is bigger than most people that give me doo doo.

Besides he can shout louder than any officials.

I'm very secure with his guidance since he cared for Treit and I for 4 days in Detroit in the middle of the winter.

He knew where to eat, where to stay, where to turn and who to talk to.

Bless his years of traveling everywhere that some sort of racing happened.

Beside that, he seldom talks to my wife and that keeps her from hearing his fabricated descriptions of

the time we spend together.

Can anybody that is there give an intelligent report about the "Code 3" situation with Ambulance, Fire truck, and Sheriff; about 0930 this AM?

No rumors, please. Just the facts, Ma'am.

Thanks.

No news yet, but here's a photo of an ambulance blowing past Land's End (Lynda and her crew did a stellar job of controlling traffic).

I'll find out what I can as I start making my rounds thru the pits.  I just talked to SSS and he doesn't know what went down, either.

Some of the vehicles in the tech line, including Irene Hanchard driving the So What Speed Shop tow vehicle.
