I am looking at some of the pay as you go broad band systems to get internet connectivity at the bend in the road and on the salt flats.

Has anyone found a mobile broad band system that works well out there that does not require an annual contract.
I am looking at the radio shack T-mobile pay as you go system. Their coverage map implies that they will have 2g coverage out on the racing venue with better coverage in near town.

Curious if anyone has tried this setup and what your experience was.
(no I do not have a smart phone)

Last year I was using the wifi at Mc Donalds but would rather not have to drive all the way into town to get on line from my laptop.

I have a Sierra/Sprint air card. Works great on the salt.

This year I've misplaced my prepaid aircard.  So, I may rig up my ATT cell phone as a tether for the laptop.  ATT worked very well out there.

I'm on TMobile BB right now.
A bit less than 3 miles from the tower and it sure ain't 2G speed, more like dial-up.

BTW, I had my email hacked by using MickeyD's wifi. Twice!

Sam:

You down course ( near the 5-6 mile) or near the starting line?
Thanks for the confirmation of down load speeds on T-mobile.

Yes I am not comfortable using public wifi in locations like casino towns, probability of folks eves dropping really high in that environment.

Larry,
Sorry, I meant my local service, here at home. (K.C.)
Can't imagine it would be better on the Salt.

See you in September,
