Well, I've been knocked out by another bout of C R S - so I'll ask you boys and girls for a reminder. Recently we were chatting about the 1971 SpeedWeek results and the Burkland Studebaker that Ron & Gail Tesinsky now run. What topic was it?
I ask 'cause Tom Burkland sent me some comments about it - to set the story straight - and I'll post them as soon as I figure out where to post 'em.
Golly gee, it's fun getting old. So many things to remember that my brain is getting full. Yeah, that's what I'll call it - Full Brain Syndrome. Shorten that to FBS, I guess. But I still will need to know the topic so I can share the information. orry to have to ask - but it's worth showing to you.

I found a Gene Burkland item -- and thought I read and decided it wasn't it. But whatever -- I'll look again in the morning. It's bedtime here in Skandia, Michigan. Thanks for the help.

Okay, youse guys win. I'll paste Ton's notes here -- and if it's not in the right place -- I expect I'll get told about that.
"Slim, The summary of Speedweek activities comes from the 1971 results sheet. That was the first year out for our Studebaker competition coupe that is now campaigned by Ron and Gail Tesinsky. The text incorrectly says we towed the car back to SLC for the roll cage additions, when in fact we had the tubing hauled out by a friend of Larry Volks and did the actual fabrication work in the Chevrolet dealership in Wendover. The car had a funny car style cage that did not meet the watchful and concerned eye of Multy Aldrich, who was the chief inspector that year. He carefully coached us through the required additions to get a full cage under the windshield and we rounded up the materials, shop fabrication equipment and set about getting it done. In the mean time the Firestone rear tires and Ford milk truck 18 inch rear wheels which had been mounted at the Firestone service truck that used to be in the pits during the event were discovered to have a larger bolt pattern than the rear axle flanges in the car. Bruce Geisler had arranged the wheel purchase and delivered them to the salt for us, but the bolt pattern had been miscommunicated some how during the phone discussions. Not being willing to give up and go home without learning more about this land speed racing, part of our rather large crew removed the rear axles from the car, transfer punched the required larger bolt pattern and headed for the drill press they had located at what was then Kaiser Chemical. This was later to become Riley, and then Intrepid Mineral as the potash mining operation syphoned off the salt. After all this effort the car made its maiden voyage down the track only to have the aerodynamic forces on the front fenders buckle them down against the front tires. Luckily the car was not going fast enough to cut the tires down directly and the initial drag from the fender rubbing one tire caused an immediate lane change and Dad was able to get stopped without any major damage, except for the virtually brand new Firestone front tires with grooves and a most of the tread shaved off. There were many lessons learned as we ran this car up until the class record was set in 1978 at 255.863 mph gaining Dad entry into the 200 mph club. Tom Burkland "
