Licensing up
« on: July 16, 2011, 03:46:11 PM »
If I can save my racebike I would like to. Is it possible to bring another bike to license up. I do not expect to be running over 150. Both me and my second rider are licensed with the ECTA for 125 and I know SCTA does not recognize ECTA license. I's like to bring another bike out just to make the 125 runs.

Question is, do I have to prepare the bike to the level of a full on race bike, safety wiring of the front axle is not problem and securing the battery is not a big deal either. Going full on with the safety wire just for licensing has to get started is I need to do that. Thanks

That would require a second entry prepeared to meet the rules just as any other entry

Rich thanks for the insights, neither answer what I wanted to hear. I can remove the adjusters for the valves pretty easy but still a lot of work, it'll keep me busy though.

I would guess that your best bet would be to contact Tom Evans    oileaky2@yahoo.com    and explane what you are doing and with what bike. He may have previous experience with your model and be able o advise you on certification. Contact info for numbers and motorcycle inspection as well as other things such as fuel, can be found in the rule book. I certainly hope you have and are reading a rule book.

Thanks Rich, damn near memorized as how it allplies to my bike yes. Been through two ECTA events and safety is spot on. I had to modify a ctach tank to be sure I was good with rules. Procedure of running the event is all new to me and I just keep asing questions. Keith Turk also answered a couple questions. He said I can get the motor sealed and wait until the end to get torn down if needed. My spark plug is centrally located over the pistion so the domaflochy going through the spark plug hole should work.

You will need a log book for each vehicle. Seems like the bike you race should be the one that you qualify on. Each bike may handle different on the salt. Good luck on what you decide.

Joe, don't count on Keith's word about getting the engine measured at the end of your racing.  I hear that's allowed for cars - but I know it's not for bikes.  On the wall of Tom's Bike Inspection HQ trailer there's a sign saying something like "Set a record today - get your engine measured today."  Once you've had it measured you may have it sealed and then go back to racing - and there's no requirement for measuring it again.

sounds like I'd be smart to get measured early, I do not understand the thing that passes through the spark plug hole though

If the plug is centered or close, you can have a rod with a rocker on it. the rocker is centered on a pin on the rod. Folded flat it fits through the plug hole and by using a wire you can rotate it to feel the bore diameter like an inside mic. It must be made to fit your bore. Then if you have another one about ,002 longer and it won't rock over, you have a very good idea of the bore dia. If you gan get to the top of a cylinder with a dial caliper it's a direct measurement of the stroke
