Title: Fuel for the July event
Post by: roadracer on May 21, 2011, 06:29:58 AM
Are you going to be using the same fuel vendor for the July event?  I know it was a VP vendor for the 1st to times.  With the MR fuels being illegal in Maine, I asume it will be the sma e C-12, C-16 and streetable 100.  Just getting a heads up on what to tune to as we use MR-12 in Maxton.

Our fuel vendor this year will be Eastern VP of Eliot Maine. If you have any special requirements, please contact them at (207) 439-3568.

Now taking pre-orders.  Please call the number below.  Prepaid orders get a 10% discount.  Pre-order closing date is Thursday, July 7th.

Due to Maine laws, I cannot sell fuel containing MTBE (U4, MR, VP113, Q16).

110, C12, C14, C16, Streetblaze 100, MS109E are the most common fuels that I sell.  Call me about others.

Click here for a link to VP's on-line fuel info. http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp-drag-racing.html (http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp-drag-racing.html)  Call if you need help choosing a fuel.

"Due to Maine laws, I cannot sell fuel containing MTBE (U4, MR, VP113, Q16)."

I doubt it.

Sorry Charles, Slim wins the prize.  VP113 contains MTBE, so I can't sell it in Maine.

Maine is much smarter than the PRK, they still use it i think, what crappola that stuff is.

I'll be giving you a call for some C-12.  I'm going to miss that MR-12 though.  On the dyno the best tune we could get lost 5 HP without the magic MR-12.  Looking forward to being back at Loring.

I have a question about the use of leaded fuels with an air fuel ratio gauge.  I have heard that the lead will foul up the sensor and render the reading inaccurate.  Is this true, and if so, what is the alternative?

I'd have to say yes.  Running MR12 I seem to go through O2 sensors often.  I now just buy the Bosch O2 sensor from the auto parts store and wire up the connector.  It's cheaper.

I agree that leaded fuel is hard on O2 sensors, but I don't think it affects the accuracy of the reading.

BTW, O'Reilly's sells Bosch sensors for $51, I'll look up their part # if anyone needs one.

If anyone needs the VP Oxy fuels like mr12,q16,mrx01, etc. you can get them on the way in Mass at Hampdon fuel. Its not that far out of the way for anyone coming up thru New England.
If its NOT an oxy fuel you need, that can be sold in Maine, please buy it at the track to support the track fuel supplier for coming to the event.

do you have to buy track fuel,or can you bring your own v.p.?

I believe that the MR12, MRX01, etc fuels are illegal to posess in Maine.  I know year 1 we were told if we were found to have that type fuel, we were out of there.

In the past it was the same as Maxton.  If you are running gas class the fuel vendor will fill and seal your tank.  Fuel class pour your own.

I have a freash 5 gallon can of MR12 at the house, but it will stay there and I'll run some 110 and maybe some C-12 for Maine.  Yeah I loose about 5-6 HP, but that's how it is.

Its not illegal to have it its just illegal to sell it in Maine.  The same as here in CT.   We run the MRX-01 and Q-16.  We have run it in both 09 and 10 at Loring as have many others and there is no issue.
In the fuel classes you can bring your own fuel and run the fuel class. The can needs to be a fresh un opened can and the fuel guy has to open it and watch you fill your tank and then he seals the tank.

That's interesting because we were told in 2009 that we could not run it.  We had MR9 with us and were told by race officials that we could not run it.  That's why we ran 110 or C12.

Why do you need to seal a tank if you are running in a fuel class?

You will be allowed to bring your own fuels that are not legal for sale in Maine.  It will need to be in a sealed container and the VP rep will need to inspect our fueling.  He will also hold your fuel for the weekend.  If you are running fuels that the VP has, please help support his trip to the track by using his.

See you all on Tues, wed, thurs.....

Also it's customary at ECTA to tip the fuel guy if he holds your sealed pails.

Dan I think there was some misused words, fuel is used for gas in a couple posts.

Dean,

If you are in a gas class, you are using gas. In a fuel class you are free to use anything, correct?

Do they require that you use the vendor's gas at Loring?

Thanks for the clearing that up Tim.  That gives me my 5 HP back.  Good reminder also Dean.  I know we all tip the fuel vendor at Maxton for holding and fueling us.  Only right to do it in Loring also.

Dan, for sure if you run in a fuel class, anything goes. In a Gas class, yes and no. A VP vendor will be on site in Loring with sealed pails of VP. For the great majority of entries, this will be the gas source. But, like the ECTA, you can bring your own GAS in a manufacturer's sealed container, and the fuel vendor can fill your tank and seal it. The ECTA vendor sells "Rocket Fuel" brand gas, I haven't had any issues with their 118 in my turbo, but some NA folks with specific tuneups (like Greg) would rather run their own gas.

The extra wrinkle with Loring is that Maine state laws prohibit MTBE, which is common in oxygenated gas. So to run certain VP gas, you'll need to bring it with you from out of state.

Just a few days away, everyone make their tribute to the weather Gods!

Ahhhrrrgghhh!!!!  Don't use the "R" word!!!!!

Great news on the ZX10 head, I can't wait to see it run.

BTW - Is he entered in MPS/G or MPS/F?   I'm bringing my nitrous bike, and will enter in MPS/F.

My plan is to arrive around noon on Friday.  I hope to be able to set up my area and get the line moving by 2pm.  I will be there all evening on Friday.  Saturday 7am until 5 or 6pm (I think that we'll go to the stock car races at Spud Speedway).  Sunday 7am until 1pm (ish).  Please pick up any impounded fuel by 1pm Sunday.

My cell number is 207-337-4306
Safe travels, see you there.
