Title: Salt Cat ll
Post by: Buickguy3 on March 25, 2011, 09:44:14 PM
Here's a little video shot of the new lakester that Salt Cat Racing has been working on this Winter. It started out as a rolling chassis that we purchased from Lynn Goodfellow last Fall. We got it out of the trailer about two months ago and made the conversion to a Buick straight 8 engine and five speed. Prior to this, Lynn had powered it with a Duramax diesel. Originally the chassis was built by Mike Cook and ran as the Got Salt lakester. We stretched it out to 261 inch wheelbase to accomodate the longer inline motor. We fired it up for the first time today at noon. If anybody is interested, there is a picture album on Facebook listed under Salt Cat Racing. Now we have to do the body and paint work and then pull the drivetrain out and put it back into Salt Cat l [the Jaguar] and get ready for August. Salt Cat ll will be out on the Salt in September for World of Speed. Here's a video clip from today.

    Elmo
Graphics are next. Then we'll pull the drivetrain back out and put it into the Jaguar for Testing, and Speed Week. Salt Cat ll will have to wait until World of Speed in September. Lots to do between now and then.

We got Salt Cat ll ready for World Of Speed, and we've pulled the drivetrain out and put back into the Jag for Speed Week. It's time to mow the lawn and all that stuff that comes after a long Montana Winter. And, the new car has portholes like all Buicks should have.

We have swapped rear tires between two cars during runs. Make a pass, haul butt back to the starting line, swap tires to the other car and make a pass with that one.

Never tried complete drive train swaps.
