Title: 135 + Car - required safety
Post by: kabacj on February 22, 2011, 09:15:39 PM
Hi. I am building a race car that will run in the NASA. I would like some guidance on the additional safety items that will be required to do a 135+ run. The car has a full roll cage that meets NASA safety specs. I will also make the required modifications to meet SCCA safety guidelines.

This includes full cage with door bars, fuel tank bladders full racing seat and restraints.

I have an acquaintance who raced last year advised that full door nets as well as a drag shoot will be required in addition to the safety items that I have.

I know that the 2011 rule book is due out soon, however I want to make sure I make any frame modifications soon as welding new structure will be harder as the build progresses.

Thanks for any advice

Kabacj,

135+  is kinda vague,,, how fast do you feel you can go ?

Chutes required for 175 and over...
Head and Neck Restraints (HNR's) 200 and over
Racing seat or other lateral braces that meets 2" lateral movement per side head movement (not sure at 150 but think 175 and up required.

Hope that helps

Charles

Hi Charles,

That helps. Thanks for the reply.

I hope to go 200+ but not 220+ as im not geared for anything greater.

I have the head and neck restraints and the lateral braces for head , neck,  and body in progress. The 2" spec is very helpful.

Thanks again
John

Cool,, so as long as you add a Chute and have the correct fire system, helmet and drivers gear  looks like you are OK.

How about post a few interior and exterior pictures of the Car ??

Luv to see them..

Remember to keep a close eye on cage specs, both design and materiel sizes.  Approved specs from other organizations and other forms of motorsport don't always meet SCTA or ECTA LSR requirements.
