Title: October at Maxton, who is coming?
Post by: Cajun Kid on October 12, 2010, 06:02:23 PM
With just over 2 weeks left to get ready, who is planning on being there ?  One last high speed fix for 2011, then the long winter to update, upgrade or whatever to find a few more mph.

See you all there....

Charles

The 996 is still in the shop but should be ready.  Metal fuel taps and braided fuel lines that should meet FIM rules are being installed.  Wiring in the kill tether and a baseline dyno run should have her ready to go.  The company that was going to fabricate the aluminum chain guard threw in the towel so I have gone to the company that customized my trailer.  It will now be in 1/8th" steel instead but that is ok.

Just in case... The 500ex is getting a mechanical timing advance key installed with before and after dyno runs to check the impact.  That bike may see some drag race or track day duty so the advance key will stay unless it drastically impacts top end.  I would like to bump that record up a little but really want to run the Ducati instead to get a feel for her and pick up my C license.

We think that we have solved the high speed miss in the WABBIT and will know for sure tomorrow, but regardless I along with a few of the Blue Bird group will be there in our usual spot next to short shutoff.

Randy Dupree is still recovering from his knee surgery and will not be there this time.

I will be there to take my Silverado for one last stroll down the Monster.
Next time I race it will be in this, in some form or another. /CGALT? I don't know if it would be legal, the top is chopped more than 3 inches.

May take me a year or so. But I will hopefully be able to come up next year and volunteer if possible.

Bud --

Build it as a Comp Coupe and don't worry about it.  Might not be real competitive in CGALT anyway.

As always, you know I'll be there.  Part of the furniture.  But no Buzz Bomb - recovering from the fire and updating several areas of the car.

Let me remind all would-be volunteers - PLEASE let me know if you're coming!  Also, any preference for position, etc.  Ken - we'll miss you but it's important to keep Ms. Leslie happy, too!  Now that you have a proven high-speed Triumph there's little left to prove (for now).

Dan (and anyone else that might care):  Nancy and I intend to be there for this last meet of the year.  I want to hear how Charles is already ending NEXT year (re-read your post, young feller), and I want to have one last chance to be together with our fellow racers.  And - it'll be a chance for me to experiment with live audio streaming from the ECTA track.

I'm not sure if we'll be running anything -- but be there we will.  See you in a couple of weeks.

Oh, yeah, Dan -- put us down for our usual jobs.

I didn't say you were ON the high-speed Triumph - just that you had one.  I suppose next year you'll have the goal of matching or exceeding Debbie's speed.  I had the same deal getting my own record back from Jon in the Buzz Bomb so I can relate.

BTW - Deb said she LOVED riding your bike and would really enjoy it for a street cruiser.

Hope we see you on Saturday.  We have some fresh blood - er - new volunteers so we're covered either way.  Poor Joe will have some trainees but I aim to get him lots of photo time.

I'm all spent for the year. Plus, I'm thoroughly tired of those Turks after doing Drag Week a couple weeks ago...

p.s. I don't recommend driving 1100 miles in a car that runs 8's in the quarter. It tends to get a little tiring.

Dan

Drive 10 hours, work like a rented mule, drive 10 hours back home, sleep maybe 3 or 4 hours and back to work at the lumber company where I work to work like a rented mule again. I thought racing was a lot easier than that.  :-D

LonH--the drive back will seem far shorter.

I hope you know I'm teasing you.  We actually schedule breaks for the volunteers so y'all can check out the place, chat with the racers, etc.  We all work hard to keep it fun.

Looks like we will make it.  The ZX-8 and ZX-10 have survived all the runs at the throttle Nation Shootout.  Fingers crossed for cool, clear weather and get that forecast big head wind out of there.

I'm sad to say that Nancy and I have cancelled our plans to be at the October meet.  Our hired hand in the engraving store will be gone for a few weeks -- so we've got to stick around to keep the doors open.

If you see this, Neil Diggens -- I'll try to find your NC address and ship the mugs to you at that addy.  And as for Tonya -- we'll find some other way to get the stuff from you to us, and in plenty of time, too.

I will be coming down on saturday with my wife and daughter to ask questions and be better prepared to come down and race next year. Would it be possible for me to attend the drivers meeting or go to the rookie orientation? Who do I look for and a time? We look forward to come back down to the warm and friendly atmosphere that we were greeted with when we attended last october. We will be easy to spot with our mopar gear on. Wishing everybody safe travel and safe racing!

Barry/D400

The drivers meeting is held on Saturday morning (8:30 am) on pit road across from the registration trailer.

You are welcome to listen in.  As for the rookie orientation talk, I would think you could follow along as well.

See you there,

Enjoy

Even as an experienced Maxton guy, if you haven't been down the track this year please do yourself a favor and do the Rookie Orientation.  They put a LOT of new asphalt on the surface over the past winter and there's quite a bit of difference.  Better to be familiar with the changes.

It's raining here early this morning at the Wal Mart campground in Laurinburg where I have spent the night, but by looking at the NWS Radar it looks like rain on and off throughout the day (Thursday) and then nice weather with cooler temperatures for this weekend. I'll head on over to the track later this morning.

Hopefully we have cured the high speed miss in the Wabbit, we will find out for sure come Saturday. See ya all there.
