Title: Want to try and run Loring in 2011, where to start??
Post by: lcorriveau3 on August 05, 2010, 08:54:46 PM
Name is Lewis,42,  I have a few questions & looking for guidance. I attended the running over the weekend and now I want to try it out for myself. I own a 1999 v6 mustang. This is what I would like to run. I am not attempting any records (yet, LOL) I just want to start somewhere. Can anybody point me in the direction to start. I purchased the rule book, have read it and not sure of everything I need to have to start. Want to be safe. I understand I don't need a cage to start, but it is recommended. My question is what tires, wheels and where to purchase? What other recommendations would anybody suggest? Thanks in advance.

With the car in good running shape and a current helmet you should be able to get tech'd to run T/O (time-only) up to 135 mph.  You really should consider a rollbar and I am fairly certain it is mandatory if it is a convertable.  The tires should be rated at or above that speed of course.  I believe they ask rookies to make a 100 mph pass on their first run.  Then you can step up to 125 and work on 135.  That is the way to go, unless there is a class that you believe the car will be competitive in for a record.

Thanks for the answers. Car is not a 'vert and I agree with the rollbar. My car is in very good running condition, I baby it. I heard the gentleman who did tech at Loring talk about the slower runs being completed first.
