Title: Adding door bars to an autopower 4pt.?
Post by: Foowee on August 01, 2010, 12:57:24 PM
Has anyone here added door bars to their bolt-in Autopower 4pt. bar to make it a 6pt.  If so does enable you to step up from 150mph to 175mph?

The only list of rules I've been able to find online is this one:  http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=21

I know there are far more rules.  Does anyone here have a link to an actual rule book?  Or do I have to buy one?

How would adding door bars turn the cage into a 6 point? :? :?

"III-2 ROLL BAR & ROLL CAGE: All cars in competition over 135 MPH, must be equipped with a roll bar or roll cage structure. All closed cars between 135 and 150 MPH must have a 4 point roll bar. All closed cars between 150 and 175 MPH must have a 6 - point roll bar.  All closed cars over 175 MPH must have a full roll cage. All open cars are advanced one bar / cage category over closed cars. Any individual wishing to enter a vehicle which deviates from these rules MUST contact the ECTA 45 days before the event for approval."

Am I mistaken?  I've been under the impression that the number of points the bar contact the floor= Xpt. Bar.

So this is not an example of a 6pt. bar?

A six point cage is a full four point cage plus the two back braces. All the supplementary bars and gussets will also be required. As Glen says, get a rule book.

That will get you up to 175 at maxton But its your but in the seat+ next year all 175+mph cars will have head restrants. So for $100. you can have a cage good to 200 mph over what you have.

That roll bar is not legal at any SCTA / BNI event.

If you are using a bolt in side bars, it needs to have grade 8 bolts and nuts...nylock nuts are not grade 8.

Mr Timney is WRONG!

Grade 8 Nylock Self Locking nuts are indeed available.

For example, check out NutsandBolts.com along with MANY other suppliers.

I am not sure about Grade 8  Nylocks,  but I am positive they make Grade 8 TopLock  locking nuts.

I will check my bolt bin and see about Grade 8  locking nut choices..

Fastenal shows both available,,, hmm I did not know that !!!!

Guess we are all correct now,,

How do they note that on the product?

Answered my own question, looked up nutsandbolts.com. Good prices! I have bought grade 8 hardware from the same aircraft supplier for 30+ years and always used wavy thread lock nuts...I guess I should look around once and a while...LOL! Thanks for the update.

Attn: Aircraft folks...is the gold color plating on grade 8 a required aviation standard? I just saw black oxide grade 8 bolts from a Case farm equipment dealer...never saw it that way.
