For 135MPH and under,,, even though a roll bar/cage is not required (recommended) you still have to have certain driver safety equipment.

SA2005 Full Face Helmet, Long Pants and Long Sleeve Shirt (fire suit recommended) Boots and Gloves.
Seat Belt (factory 3 point OK) but SFI harness is better of course.

For over 135mph you will have to have Roll Bar/Cage and all SFI Drivers clothing.

Most street cars going under 135mph only require the driver to wear a Snell MA2005 or S2005 or higher rated helmet, a long sleeve shirt and long legged pants.

Since you are specifically talking about a Vette, I believe there are also further rules for a roll bar on plastic or fiberglass bodied cars.

Also if speeds above 150 a in cab Halon type fire extinguisher.

This will be my first time running LSR and I'm definitely in the street car class. Does anyone have a helmet for sale or rent? That's one of the details I overlooked until I read these posts.

Thanks

If you find a Helmet,, make sure it is a Snell Certified M2005 or SA2005  Full Face ...

You can check with the officials.... since 2010 is not over they may allow a M2000 or SA2000 in good condition ??

Better ask Tech ???

Good Luck

Snell M is no good in a car! It doesn't have the fireproof lining.

You can use a Snell S helmet for a bike but you can NOT use a Snell M in a car.

Make sure you buy/borrow the right helmet!

M is fine for a car. Car and bike Streamliners require SA.

What if your car does not run on gasoline, ethanol, methanol or any other flammable liquid? Do you need a fire rated helmet?

 Dave,
I have a helmet I can lend you. Look for a maroon short bus with Ct. plates that smells like french fries. (I'm up there working-but still will have all my gear in the hauler.

It runs on juice.   ;^)

Check it out here;

Sorry, but it doesn't make much noise, breathe fire, or do any of those fun things most fast cars do.  It's not a record breaker, but we have to start somewhere. Give me a year or two, and some lithium batteries, and I'll be looking to add a roll cage, better tires and a nice paint job. Then maybe I can earn some bragging rights. But for now I just want to get it on the track.

Hey sdwarf36

I'll probably take you up on the offer. I've asked around at the local bike shops and nobody carries the right helmets. Not sure if there's a shop in CT that does. Too late for an online purchase. At the SCCA events I've been to they supplied the helmets.

I'll be heading up in a black Silverado with a blue Porsche tailgating me the whole way.

Thanks for the help,

Dave Cover

Just keep in mind that electricity is famous for starting fires and no matter what starts them, once they get going they cause the same amount of damage.
